**The College of Environment has an outstanding opportunity for a RSE-Assistant (Temporary Project Appointment) to join their team.**
The person in this position will function as an entry-level biologist providing fishery research support in a team whose main task is the investigation of fish trophic interactions in the North Pacific and defining the management implications of the interactions. This research is accomplished mainly through large-scale collection of fish stomachs aboard research vessels, the subsequent stomach analysis in the lab utilizing dissecting microscopes and knowledge of marine fish and invertebrate taxonomy, and the incorporation of the resulting data into a fish food habits data base. The database is subjected to analyses that provide predation mortality estimates of commercial fishes and other data of interest to management and other research programs.
**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
Responsibilities include:
+ Taxonomically identify stomach contents of marine fish and entry of stomach data via an online computer form. – 55%
+ Participate in research cruises. – 10%
+ Maintain records and quality control of food habits collections and laboratory analysis. – 10%
+ Assist in report preparation of research results. – 5%
+ Maintain and update prey specimen collection. – 5%
+ Develop new keys and identification methods. – 5%
+ Investigate new technologies for food habits research. - 5%
+ Assist project leader with collection of literature relevant to fish physiology, collection of field samples. – 5% **MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**
+ Bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology, Fisheries, Zoology, Ecology, Biology or related field and less than one year of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education/experience. **ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS**
+ Experience with taxonomic identification of aquatic taxa.
+ Knowledge of data management practices, taxonomic identification of N. Pacific taxa, ability to follow lab safety guidelines. **DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS**
+ Experience with Microsoft Suite, Excel/Spreadsheets. > 1 year experience in taxonomically identification of stomach contents of marine fish or related relevant experience. **Application Process:** The application process may include completion of a variety of online assessments to obtain additional information that will be used in the evaluation process.?
