Research Scientist/Engineer 1 (Part Time 75% FTE)

**Job Description**
**The department of Neurological Surgery is seeking a Research/Engineer 1 to join their team.**
**Job Duties**
10% - Plasma deposition (and upkeep of plasma reactors) of fluoropolymers and reactive precursors on to intravascular stents and test systems.
20% - Analysis of the chemistry of the coatings and stability of the coating by ESCA and SIMS.
30% - Treatment of stents with carboxybetaine (synthesis, UV crosslinking and chemical immobilization)
30% - Preliminary blood compatibility assessment of treated stents including I-125 protein studies.
5% - General lab upkeep and maintenance.
5% - Reporting to the research team and authoring/publication of research papers.
**Minimum Qualifications**
Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering with one year of experience in I-125 radioactive research technology and RF-plasma deposition for the analysis and manufacturing of vascular stent coatings.
Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
**Additional Requirements**
+ Knowledge and practical experience using I-125 radioisotope protein labeling technique for analysis of stent surface interaction.
+ Knowledge and practical experience in blood compatibility assessments of surface coatings.
+ Experience in quantitatively measuring protein adsorption to surfaces
+ Knowledge and practical experience using RF-plasma deposition for stent manufacture and analysis.
+ Experience in the manufacturing and analysis of vascular stent surface modifications, in particular anti-thrombotic and anti-fouling coatings, and payload capacity.
**Desired Qualifications**
+ Master’s or doctoral degree in engineering, particularly bioengineering, chemical engineering or related fields.
+ Experience in the manufacture and analysis of vascular stent surface modifications, in particular antithrombotic and anti-fouling coatings, and payload capacity.

**Pay Range Minimum:**
$56,448.00 annual
**Pay Range Maximum:**
$93,180.00 annual
