Research Scientist - Chemistry
Job Description We’re seeking skilled Biology, Chemistry, and Physics subject matter experts to contribute their specialized knowledge and enhance the quality of our AI training datasets. This role offers the chance to work remotely, partnering closely with Meta’s AI research teams to advance cutting-edge technologies. What You'll Do:  · Domain Expertise Advisory: Guide research teams to close knowledge gaps and improve AI model performance, focused on your specialty field; collaborate with other subject matter experts to ensure consistency and accuracy in training data  · Guideline Development: Create, edit, and maintain high-quality annotation guidelines tailored to your area of expertise. Ensure that these guidelines are up-to-date, clear, and concise to enable vendors to deliver accurate annotations. As a domain SME, you'll set the gold standard for quality and rigor.  · Quality Assurance: Evaluate and grade the quality of annotations produced by vendors. Identify areas of improvement and provide feedback to optimize the quality of annotations.  · Data Annotation: Directly annotate data for key tasks across the model development life cycle. problems in logical, step-by-step thinking preferred.  · Domain Knowledge: Experience with physics (specific sub-domains below).  · Deep Knowledge: Demonstrated deep understanding and expertise in physics.  · Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey complex ideas and guidance to internal teams and external vendors.  · Analytical Skills: Exceptional analytical abilities to identify trends, evaluate annotation quality, and provide actionable feedback.  · Collaboration: Proven ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and external partners to achieve shared goals.  · Adaptability: Flexibility and willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes in a rapidly evolving environment. Skills and Requirements • Advanced degree (PhD preferred; exceptional candidates with Master’s degrees considered) in a relevant scientific field  • Demonstrated expertise in a specialty area within Biology, Chemistry, or Physics (outlined below)  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical communication skills  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative scientific team Chemistry – Priority Expertise Areas: Candidates with expertise in any chemical discipline are encouraged to apply, with priorities in the following order:  1. Physical Chemistry Thermodynamics, kinetics, quantum chemistry, spectroscopy.  2. Biochemistry Protein chemistry, enzymology, molecular interactions.  3. Inorganic Chemistry Catalysis, coordination chemistry, materials synthesis.  4. Polymers & Materials Science Polymer synthesis, soft matter, nanomaterials.  5. Organic Chemistry Synthesis, reaction mechanisms, molecular design.  6. Analytical Chemistry Instrumentation, separations, quantitative analysis. • Record of peer-reviewed publications or demonstrated research impact  • Experience with computational tools, statistical modeling, or simulation frameworks  • Ability to communicate complex concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders  • Cross-disciplinary interest or experience
