Job Title: Research Associate



Job Description

We are seeking a Research Associate to join our dynamic team focusing initially on microbiology projects before expanding into molecular biology. The position involves executing straightforward, repetitive tasks with precision and care. This includes bacterial culturing, plating, and utilizing UV Vis spectrophotometry to monitor microbial growth. The role requires working with blood, and the use of PPE and BSL-2 facilities is mandatory, with comprehensive training provided.

Responsibilities

Perform bacterial culturing and plating to grow bacteria.Utilize UV Vis spectrophotometry for microbial growth measurement.Maintain strong organizational skills in the laboratory setting.Work under the guidance of a Scientist/Sr. Scientist to develop and optimize assays.Design and implement experiments on the bench and within consumable devices.Take detailed notes and adhere to good documentation practices.Summarize and communicate experimental data, drawing independent conclusions.Identify and resolve assay and device performance issues.

Essential Skills

Proficiency in assay development and PCR techniques, including qPCR and digital PCR.Experience with molecular biology, bacterial culturing, and spectrometry.Strong aseptic technique and lab organizational skills.Sound knowledge of chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, and immunology.2+ years of relevant laboratory experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

BA/BS or MA/MS in life sciences.Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams.Proficient in computer skills, including email, word processing, Excel, graphing, and analytic software.

Work Environment

The work environment consists of a team of 4-5 scientists and 4-5 engineers working collaboratively. The role is based in Carlsbad, CA, focusing on in vitro diagnostic product development and automation of laboratory techniques within disposable devices. The team prides itself on being a part of a cutting-edge consulting firm, dedicated to making a positive impact on global health.

This is a Contract position based out of Carlsbad, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $31.00/hr.
