The Department of Physiology and Biophysics Research is seeking a Research Associate 3 to work full-time, on-site in Miami. The Research Associate 3 supports research activities under the direction of a principal investigator, program director or designee of the principal investigator or program director. CORE JOB SUMMARYThe Research Associate 3 assumes responsibility for the design and performance of research focused on the development of novel experimental therapies for human malignancies. The incumbent contributes to collaborations with scientists within the University of Miami or elsewhere. Moreover, this individual works as part of a team and assists with the maintenance of laboratory equipment, protocols, and supplies.CORE JOB FUNCTIONS1. Maintains daily operations and performs procedures related to new and on-going research projects.2. Assists with ordering, purchasing, and maintenance of all required reagents and supplies for laboratory activities, and monitors and maintains inventory of supplies and stocks.3. Assists with the maintenance of institutional biosafety and animal care protocols, laboratory safety records, and standard operating procedures.4. Performs and assists other research staff with standard laboratory techniques.5. Develops, adapts, and implements new laboratory procedures.6. Records, organizes, and writes up experimental results for submission of manuscripts and for scientific presentations.7. Keeps abreast of latest literature in the field and searches for references to technical problems.8. Maintains current knowledge of the methods and techniques related to the specific field of research.9. Department Specific Functions The Research Associate Level 3 will play a key role in the research activities of Department of Physiology and Biophysics related to structural biology of GPCRs. Responsibilities include conducting experiments using cultured cells and recombinant proteins. The candidate will culture cell lines for in vitro experiments, including functional assays. Additionally, they will perform protein purification and study recombinant proteins and their complexes by CryoEM, advancing research on neuroscience and therapeutic strategies. Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes: + Expertise in molecular, cellular biology, and cryogenic electron microscopy + Proficiency in cell culture techniques + Proficiency working with recombinant protein expression and purification. + Knowledge of CryoEM process and data analysis. + Ability to design, execute, and troubleshoot experiments independently. + Strong data collection, analysis, and interpretation skills, with proficiency in relevant software for statistical and imaging analysis. + Excellent technical writing skills for preparing reports, manuscripts, and grant applications. + Effective mentorship and supervision skills for training junior staff and students. + Strong organizational and time management skills to coordinate multiple research projects simultaneously. + A collaborative and team-oriented mindset to work effectively within a multidisciplinary research environment. + High attention to detail and commitment to maintaining data accuracy and reproducibility. + A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous learning. + Strong dedication to maintaining ethical standards and compliance in research. + Enthusiasm for contributing to impactful cancer research and advancing the lab's scientific mission.
