Check out more information about Prime Air on the About Amazon blog: https://www.aboutamazon.com/news/tag/drone The Opportunity As Amazon Prime Air expands its drone delivery service, we're seeking a Regulatory Affairs Specialist to join our U.S. Regulatory Affairs Infrastructure and Strategy team. This is a pivotal role in which you will shape the regulatory landscape for commercial drone delivery, working at the intersection of technology and aviation policy. You will be instrumental in obtaining essential aviation approvals, building strategic relationships with external aviation stakeholders, and helping to establish the framework that will further enable scaling of safe drone delivery operations. You will serve as a bridge between Amazon's innovative technology teams, its drone operations teams, airspace users and communities, and regulatory bodies. You will ensure that Prime Air is fully engaged with other airspace users to guarantee safe use of airspace and will translate complex technical objectives into regulatory strategies while navigating the rapidly evolving landscape of unmanned aircraft systems regulations. Your work will directly enable continued expansion of Prime Air's operations and help to bring this transformative service to more customers. Export Control License: This position may require a deemed export control authorization for compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Placement is contingent on Amazon’s ability to apply for and obtain an export control license on your behalf. Key job responsibilities • Drive Regulatory Strategy: Develop and coordinate site-specific strategies for obtaining government aviation approvals while facilitating conversations and agreements with aviation stakeholders at local and national levels • Prepare and Submit Required Applications and Assessments: Play a key role in drafting, obtaining approvals, and submitting multiple required applications and assessments to the FAA and other bodies • Support Site Selection and Roll-out: Review potential new Prime Air sites to identify airspace issues and local airspace users • Serve as Regulatory Expert: Act as the subject matter expert supporting internal teams, keeping stakeholders informed about regulatory developments • Lead Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Legal, Public Policy, Public Relations, Engineering, and Operations teams to manage projects effectively and align on goals, approaches, and messaging This role requires travel, up to 30% of the time. Basic Qualifications - Bachelor's degree or above - Experience in transportation operations and industry knowledge - Experience in aviation regulatory compliance - Experience with regulatory filings and reports or equivalent - Experience with communication, presentation, and negotiation - Experience building scalable programs and repeatable scalable processes, levering various tools and methods to create scale and efficiency - Experience in problem solving and delivering results - 5+ years of experience working with aviation regulations, regulatory permissions, and/or aviation stakeholder outreach - Knowledge of airspace management issues Preferred Qualifications - Master’s degree - 7+ years of experience working with aviation regulations, regulatory permissions or compliance, and/or aviation stakeholders, with proven ability to lead others in a fast-paced environment - Experience with Unmanned Traffic Management (UTM), environmental topics in aviation, hazardous materials (HazMat), and/or communications topics - Background interacting with airspace user groups Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status. The base pay for this position ranges from $114,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $205,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
