BASIC FUNCTION:
The Cardiac Catheterization RN (Monitoring RN) is a licensed professional nurse responsible for the continuous assessment, interpretation, and documentation of patient hemodynamics during diagnostic and interventional cardiac and vascular procedures. This RN functions primarily in the monitoring booth, collaborating closely with the proceduralist, circulating RN, and technologist to ensure patient safety, accurate data capture, and optimal procedural outcomes.
SECTION II
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing; BSN preferred.
Licensure: Current Registered Nurse license in the State of New York (or applicable state).
Certifications:
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required
+ Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – Required
+ Critical Care or Cardiovascular Nursing Certification (CCRN, RCIS, or CVRN) – Preferred
Experience:
+ Minimum 1–2 years of experience in critical care, telemetry, or cardiac catheterization lab.
+ Prior hemodynamic monitoring experience required.
+ Familiarity with cardiovascular pharmacology and interventional cardiology workflows preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The position is located indoors under normal working conditions. Should be able to push/pull 35 lb., lift/move 20 lb. from floor to table, be able to perform moderately difficult manual manipulations requiring hand-eye coordination such as patient care tasks and use of computers and complex equipment. Mobility requirements may include the ability to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time, in addition to being able to walk for a reasonable length of time and distance. Sensory requirements include the ability to articulate and comprehend the spoken English language in addition to being able to read the English language.
SECTION V:
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:
Patient Monitoring & Hemodynamic Assessment
+ Continuously monitors ECG, arterial pressure, oxygen saturation, and other invasive hemodynamic parameters during cardiac catheterization, PCI, EP, and structural heart procedures.
+ Interprets and documents hemodynamic waveforms, arrhythmias, and physiological responses in real time.
+ Recognizes and promptly communicates significant changes or abnormalities to the physician and procedural team.
+ Assists in calculation and documentation of valve areas, gradients, shunts, and cardiac output when applicable.
Documentation & Data Integrity
+ Accurately records procedure times, medications administered, device use, and procedural events in the electronic medical record and hemodynamic monitoring system (e.g., Mac-Lab, Xper, or GE system).
+ Ensures accurate correlation of patient identifiers, procedural logs, and images for quality assurance and reporting.
+ Participates in registry data collection (e.g., ACC-NCDR, STS) through accurate procedural documentation.
Clinical Support & Collaboration
+ Communicates effectively with circulating RN and scrub staff to anticipate needs and coordinate patient care.
+ Verifies appropriate monitoring lines and transducer setups prior to procedure start.
+ Supports code and emergency management within the lab, including assisting with ACLS interventions as directed.
+ Maintains sterile and radiation-safety awareness in collaboration with all team members.
Quality, Safety, and Compliance
+ Adheres to AORN, ACC, and institutional standards for invasive cardiac procedures.
+ Participates in time-out verification, procedural safety checks, and radiation dose monitoring.
+ Ensures readiness and calibration of monitoring equipment.
Participates in unit-based quality improvement and morbidity/mortality review processes

Salary Range: $39.23-55.58/hour Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
