Join us, and discover why U.S. News & World Report has named us one of America’s Best Hospitals! 4South is our 63-bed, Oncology/Cellular Therapy/Hospice unit providing quality care to patients with medical diagnoses such as pneumonia, rule out tuberculosis, sepsis, sickle cell anemia, cancer and palliative care. Patient care needs are identified through interdisciplinary assessments, team care planning, and a patient classification system. A multi-disciplinary approach is used throughout the continuum of service with a special focus on pain management, medications, self-care, nutrition, and education. The team also provides special procedures including chemotherapy administration and monitoring, pain management, metabolic support, patient and caregiver education and support and, palliative care. We also provide quality care to patients undergoing chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation and for patients with leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma stem cell/bone marrow transplantation (BMT). We also have medical and telemetry patients and nurses are trained for various research protocols as they administer the medication for the research study. As a Registered Nurse on 4South, you are responsible and accountable for the application of the nursing process and the delivery of patient care for the specialty patient population. You will also + provide and accurately document direct and indirect patient care services that ensures the safety, comfort, personal hygiene, and protection of patients in a timely manner + provide patient education on disease prevention and restorative measures. + provide administration of medications and therapeutic agents necessary to implement treatment, disease prevention, or rehabilitative plan of care. + perform skin tests, immunizations, phlebotomy and the initiation of peripheral venous access. + observe and assess signs and symptoms of illness, reactions to medications/treatments, general behavior, and/or general physical condition to determine normal versus abnormal characteristics and initiate emergency procedures when indicated. + plan and implement individualized patient care based on observations. Implements appropriate reporting, referrals and care in accordance with standardized procedures while providing care to special patient populations and patients with diverse cultural backgrounds. + identify patients' readiness for learning and their ability to follow directions/instructions and give consent while identifying and assessing patient safety concerns with respect to age and developmental considerations. + demonstrate the knowledge and the ability to identify and make special adjustments as required to the specific populations' needs, including cultural, spiritual, age, psychosocial, communication, gender, sexual orientation, economic, education, family and condition needs. **This position is eligible for an Employee Referral Program bonus. A CNII Independently prioritizes & delivers dependable and effective patient care in a variety of patient situations using nursing process utilizing appropriate decision-making skills. A CNII exhibits competence in the technical, interpersonal and cognitive skills required to independently and safely manage routine patient assignment. The Clinical Nurse II begins to develop their mentorship skillsets under the leadership of experienced and expert clinicians on their unit. Drives the mentee-mentor relationship to identify gaps in skills, practice and knowledge to achieve desired goals. A CNII establishes a plan of care, sets goals, determines priorities, and provides care within established standards of practice. The scope of responsibility, duties and accountability at the facility department and position levels including knowledge and practice of the clinical/technical skills necessary to the position consistent with the Nurse Practice Act. Department-Specific Responsibilities Additional primary duties and responsibilities that are only performed in the specific department(s) below: Department Duties and Responsibilities Pediatrics (4NE) Postpartum and Newborn Nsy -Infant Safety and Security: Identify infant safety risk and implement standard practice to prevent harm and abduction Pediatrics (4NE) Postpartum and Newborn Nsy -Perform State Required Newborn Screens: Completes thorough assessment and newborn screens such as Critical Congenital Heart Defect, Jaundice, Newborn Hearing Screens, CA Newborn Screening Test Pediatrics (4NE) Postpartum and Newborn Nsy - Lactation Support and Education: performs a comprehensive breastfeeding assessment of the mother/baby/family, to facilitate intervention and the development of a breastfeeding plan Pediatrics (4NE) Postpartum and Newborn Nsy -Postpartum Depression Screen: Properly screens all postpartum moms for postpartum depression, providing education of risk, and collaboration with MD and SW for referral and resource Pediatrics (4NE) Postpartum and Newborn Nsy - Postpartum Hemorrhage Management: able to identify and intervene in postpartum emergency management of a hemorrhage Pain Center Provides direct and indirect care services for each clinical area of the department including perioperative, clinic, and triage. Pain Center Adheres to radiographic protective equipment while working intraoperatively. Pain Center Performs administration of moderate sedation and medicinal infusions while adhering to medication safety protocols. Research Institute Clinical & Translational Research Center (CTRC) - Oversees multiple research studies as protocol liaison, works with the nurse manager to ensure staff involved in patient care meet all training requirements. Collaborates with the study team to ensure clear, accurate execution of study protocols, treatment procedures, and research orders. Research Institute Clinical & Translational Research Center (CTRC) - Travels to offsite locations, including Cedars-Sinai Medical Center inpatient units and other affiliated locations, to provide nursing care for clinical trial participants. Research Institute Clinical & Translational Research Center (CTRC) - Collects, handles, and processes research specimens following protocol requirements. Records vital signs, medications, research compounds administered, and patient responses in medical records and data sheets. Research Institute Clinical & Translational Research Center (CTRC) - Provide educational and support to inpatient nurses regarding research specific aspects of care for patients involved in clinical trials. Research Institute Clinical & Translational Research Center (CTRC) - Provides direct nursing care to adult and pediatric research participants. Administers medications, therapeutic agents, and other treatments according to research protocols and physician orders. Supports high-risk procedures, including infusion of investigational drugs including but not limited to gene therapy, immunotherapy, Chemotherapy and sedation. Responds to emergencies by initiating appropriate procedures.
