BASIC FUNCTION: The Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) is an integral member of the adult gastroenterology (GI) division at University of Michigan Health (UM Health). The RDN has their own provider schedule to see patients referred by the medical provider team as part of a multidisciplinary care approach. The RDN serves as the nutrition expert in helping people to make lifestyle changes for overall health improvement, disease prevention and management. The RDN supports patients via oversight of specialized diets or nutrition goals needed for optimization of medical outcomes.
This RDN will provide medical nutrition therapy while working with patients referred from our U-M Health Gastroenterologists for reasons including, but not limited to: Inflammatory Bowel Diseases such as Crohn?s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, Eosinophilic Esophagitis, Pancreatitis, Short Bowel Syndrome / high output ostomy, Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth, Disorders of Gut-Brain Interaction disorders (including irritable bowel syndrome), Celiac Disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), Gastroparesis, and enteral and parenteral patients followed/managed by our UM Health gastroenterologists. Screening for disordered eating will be required in the comprehensive nutrition assessment.
The RDN provides service to adult patients over the age of 18 years.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Supervision received from Manager of Ambulatory Care Nutrition Services. Leadership oversight also received from Ambulatory Care/Division administration/physician leadership.Liaison relationship with interdisciplinary health care team for patient care populations of responsibility.Peer relationships with RDNs in work group, including two GI RDNs well-established on team. Provide service to the ambulatory adult GI clinics for identified patient populations, including virtual care via 1:1 appointments, group visits, and 1:1 telephone support. Has routine communication with patients as needed for frequent diet related questions on very complicated diet regimens or when other nutrition issues arise.Utilize charge capture by RDN for RDN services.RDN plays an integral role in hosting a national GI nutrition practicum annually.The RDN is also an integral part of the GI program?s service to our patients in regard to supporting faculty via making/supporting GI nutrition resources for patients.RDN provides informational content via UM Health social media outlets, education material development, and websites.Provide quality service based on customer expectations and needs.Incorporate UM Health core values of respect, compassion, trust, integrity, efficiency and leadership into all work efforts.Maintain productivity standards and practice effective time management.Assist in achieving compliance with state and federal regulatory and accrediting agencies.Participate in interdisciplinary meetings, task forces, and projects as appropriate.Contribute to quality improvement efforts.Collect outcome data to help improve practice as requested.KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

Required Qualifications*Registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration, the credentialing agency for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.If licensed on or after January 1, 2024: Master?s degreeThis classification requires Primary Source Verification.Desired Qualifications*Bachelor's degree granted by an accredited college or university or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.Completion of a didactic program in dietetics and supervised practice program approved by ACEND (Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with active registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Requires primary source verification.Master's degree in Dietetics, Nutritional Science, Public Health, Health Behavior/Health Education is preferred.Documented experience working with adult gastroenterology patient population.Registration with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.NOTE: * Required qualifications must be met by the candidate in order to be interviewed and considered for the position.
Work LocationsAt time of hire, the RDN will work as a ?mobile? employee. A ?mobile? employee works remotely for the majority of the work week and can accomplish the job fully remotely, with occasional work onsite as needed or requested.

Union AffiliationThis position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
