Job Description
The Mission
You will command the largest and most complex sub-region in Southeast Asia. Based in our Bangkok hub, you will oversee a diverse portfolio of markets ranging from high-growth "Tiger Economies" (Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand) to developing Frontier Markets (Cambodia, Laos).
Your mandate is to manage a "Two-Speed Strategy":
Direct Strategic Warfare: Lead the counter-offensive against low-cost competitors in our core markets (PH, VN, TH).
Indirect Channel & Compliance: Manage a distributor-led model for Frontier Markets, while strictly enforcing US Trade Sanctions and Export Controls (specifically regarding Myanmar).
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Theatre Command
Core Market Defense (PH, VN, TH): Orchestrate the "Counter-Offensive" across the three major economies. Translate successful tactics across borders:
Thailand: Leverage the "E-GP" expertise to win Smart City tenders.
Philippines: Enforce "Post-Qualification" rigor to secure Public Safety deals.
Vietnam: Drive "Value Justification" to overcome price sensitivity in State-Owned Enterprises.
Geopolitical Leverage: Act as the primary conduit for utilizing US-ASEAN frameworks. Leverage Thailand’s "Major Non-NATO Ally" status and the Philippines’ VFA/EDCA agreements to position Motorola Solutions as the sovereign partner of choice for National Defense.
2. Frontier Market Management (The "Channel Play")
Cambodia & Laos (Indirect Growth): Unlike the "Big Three" where we sell direct/high-touch, you will manage these markets primarily through a Master Distributor model. Your goal is to capture opportunistic infrastructure projects (Hydro, Mining, Casinos) while minimizing our direct operational footprint.
The "Thai Bridge": Leverage Bangkok-based System Integrators and Thai Telcos who operate cross-border networks into Laos and Cambodia, using them as the vehicle to carry Motorola technology into these frontier territories.
3. Sanctions & Trade Compliance (The "Firewall")
Myanmar Risk Containment: This is a critical governance function. You must strictly oversee all activity related to Myanmar to ensure absolute compliance with OFAC (Office of Foreign Assets Control) and US Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
Ensure no "leakage" of technology to sanctioned entities (e.g., Tatmadaw-linked enterprises).
Manage legacy warranty/support obligations for humanitarian or non-sanctioned entities (e.g., UN, Embassies) only where legally licensed.
Frontier Due Diligence: Enforce enhanced "Know Your Customer" (KYC) protocols for partners in Cambodia and Laos to prevent diversion of technology to prohibited end-users.
4. Operational Arbitration (The Hub Commander)
Resource Allocation: You own the "Regional War Chest." You must decisively allocate scarce technical resources (Solution Architects) between the "Big Three" based on ROI, resisting the urge to dilute high-value resources into smaller Frontier deals.
Forecast Calibration: Manage the combined P&L complexity. Balance the "lumpy," high-volatility government revenue of the Philippines/Vietnam with the steady run-rate business in Thailand and the opportunistic flows from Indochina.
Basic Requirements
15+ Years of Regional Leadership: Proven track record managing a multi-country cluster in Southeast Asia. Experience based in Bangkok is highly preferred.
Sanctions & Compliance Fluency: You must have working knowledge of US Trade Compliance (EAR/OFAC). You understand the gravity of "Denied Party Lists" and know how to operate a business next door to a sanctioned jurisdiction (Myanmar) without crossing the line.
The "Portfolio Manager" Mindset: Ability to toggle management styles:
Style A (For PH/VN/TH): Strategic, Political, High-Touch lobbying with Ministers.
Style B (For Frontier): Transactional, Distributor-focused, Risk-averse.
Public Sector Sophistication: Experience managing G2G (Government-to-Government) deals. You understand how to lobby for US standards in markets heavily influenced by Chinese infrastructure loans (Belt & Road Initiative).
