Regional Design Manager (13313)

Role Summary

Joining our construction business, this is a construction design management and technical advisory role in which you will provide technical support to the Pre-Construction and Operations teams across a wide range of building projects.

You will be responsible for supporting the production of technical tender submissions and for the development, review, control and management of day-to-day construction design activities. This includes close collaboration with internal teams, consultants, subcontractors and clients during all project phases: pre-construction, bid management and tenders, construction and handover.

Key Responsibilities

Producing technical content for construction tender proposals Supporting and leading pre-construction bid processes where required Managing relationships with clients, consultants and the supply chain Resolving construction and design-related technical queries Supporting commissioning, handover and close-out activities Reviewing designs for buildability, compliance and value engineering Identifying design gaps and coordinating contractor design proposals Carrying out buildability and risk reviews Planning and programming design and construction activities Coordinating design disciplines and associated construction activities Integrating subcontractors and the wider supply chain into the design process Setting and managing the design scope Monitoring and reporting on design progress and performance Supporting commercial control of design and construction activities Managing risks and opportunities across the project lifecycle Conducting KPI and performance reviews Ensuring compliance with systems, procedures and quality standards

Knowledge/Skills/Experience

Experience working within a construction or main contractor environment, ideally across both pre-construction and project delivery Experience producing technical content for construction bids and tenders Strong understanding of construction methodologies, sequencing and buildability Recognised building industry accreditation and strong knowledge of industry legislation and regulations Advanced IT skills, including experience with BIM and construction design platforms A strong technical construction background with experience supporting clients and stakeholders Well-developed design management, bid, commercial and project management skills Good understanding of quality management systems, environmental procedures and health & safety compliance Ability to assess risk versus value and identify opportunities for added value Professional and flexible approach to work, clients and colleagues Strong technical communication and presentation skills Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines High attention to detail and accuracy Proactive, collaborative and approachable working style Strong organisational skills and ability to work as part of a multi-functional team Ability to manage design activities and designers while supporting wider bid and estimating teams Commercial awareness and understanding of cost drivers in construction Entrepreneurial mindset with a focus on innovation and best practice BTEC / HNC in Construction, Civil Engineering or a related built environment discipline Degree-level qualification in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or similar BTEC / ONC in a construction-related discipline IOSH Managing or Directing Safely CSCS card
