Pay Range: $22.14 - $32.00/hour Job Summary: The Recreation Therapist provides support and clinical services to adolescents, and adults, adjusting for the effects of age, culture, background, experience and developmental status. This employee is responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating therapeutic recreational activities that address the treatment needs of the client. Essential Job Duties: 1. Teach and coach individuals served in activities including daily living skills, leisure utilization skills, motor skills, music, dance, arts and crafts, cultural arts, nature study, swimming, social recreation, sports programs, relaxation activities, leadership skills and games. 2. Adapts lesson plans and activities to individuals’ ability and treatment needs. 3. Insures that appropriate supplies are available, in good working condition and are safe. 4. Identifies and links residents with appropriate community resources. 5. Supervises individuals served during activities, implementing appropriate behavior management techniques to include low level and therapeutic physical intervention. 6. Formulates an assessment of prioritized treatment issues to be addressed (relevant to the scope and purpose of the individual’s program), based on the information gathered. 7. Formulates a treatment plan which is written in behavioral terms, is measurable and changes over the course of treatment. 8. Demonstrates an awareness of outside resources relevant to the population served. 9. Implements appropriate record keeping procedures (monthly activities calendar, weekly schedule, multi-d reports, eCR reports, evaluations/assessments). 10. Assists in transporting clients as required. 11. Performs all other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor. Skills: • Computer skills • Customer skills • Organizational skills Competencies Template: Professional Minimum Degree Required: • Bachelor's degree in one of the following areas: Recreation Therapy, Physical Education, Art Therapy/Education, Drama, Early Childhood Education, Music Education, Psychology, Rehabilitation, Sociology or Special Education. Internal Use Only: If working in the RTF under OMH regulations and the candidate does not possess specifically a Recreational Therapy or Physical Education degree, a waiver provision has been granted by OMH [584.21(a)(3) Section 584.10(e)] & Albany. This request will be submitted by the Recreation Coordinator to WNYFO and must be signed off before candidate may work in OMH sites. Minimum Experience Required: • 1-2 years working with youth with behavioral/emotional issues Required License/Registration/ Certification: • Valid NYS Driver’s License • TCI Certification (training provided by OLV Human Services) Required Training: - New Hire Orientation Physical Requirements: The overall nature of the position is sedentary requiring little physical effort with occasional light physical exertion required. There is little, if any, exposure to environmental conditions • The constant physical demands of the position are standing and walking. • The frequent physical demands of the position are sitting, climbing, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, and eye/hand/foot coordination. • The occasional physical demands of the position are lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, balancing, stooping, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping, and feeling.
