Summary

CHS is seeking a Senior Procurement Specialist to support strategic sourcing, supplier negotiations, and contract management for rail transportation. This role focuses on driving cost-effective procurement outcomes through supplier strategy, performance management, and data-driven rate analysis using CHS freight procurement systems and tools.

The position requires strong experience in freight contracting, vendor negotiations, and maintaining accurate rate and supplier data to support enterprise-wide decision making.

Responsibilities Lead analysis, sourcing and negotiation activities with Class I and Shortline railroad agreementsDevelop and manage procurement strategies that improve cost competitiveness, service reliability, and supplier accountability across the rail networkUtilize CHS freight procurement and rate management systems including Tratics to maintain accurate pricing, contract terms, and supplier performance dataConduct freight rate analysis, market benchmarking, and cost modeling to support contract negotiations and annual sourcing strategiesIdentify savings opportunities through competitive bidding, contract optimization, supplier consolidation, and rebate or incentive structuresPartner with internal stakeholders across Operations, Logistics, Finance, and Commercial teams to align procurement decisions with business needsSupport development of standardized procurement policies, processes, and reporting tools to improve governance and compliance across rail spendIdentify rate discrepancies that lead to invoice errors and correct root causeMaintain strong supplier relationships while ensuring adherence to CHS safety expectations and operational standardsPerform other procurement-related responsibilities as assignedMinimum Qualifications (required) High School diploma or GED4+ years of experience in Supply Chain and/or ProcurementProficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Access, and ExcelAdditional Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, or related fieldExperience supporting rail or freight transportation procurement at an enterprise levelAdvanced knowledge of freight rate structures, contract negotiations, and supplier performance managementExperience with PowerBI creation, JDE, SAP, Tratics, and KalerisStrong communication, analytical, and relationship-building skillsPre-employment screening is based on the job requirements and industry guidelines and may or may not be required for the position. CHS offers a competitive total rewards package. Compensation includes base wage and, depending upon position, may include other earnings such as bonus, incentives and commissions. Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications, minimum wage/salary requirements under local law.
