Fairview is looking for a Casual Radiation Therapist to join our St. John's Hospital team.  Staff radiation administers radiation therapy as prescribed by a physician in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization.

Job Responsibilities: 

 

Patient Treatment Management

Continuously acts in the best interest of the patient under departmental guidelinesVerifies correct patient prior to each procedureDelivers precise and efficient ionizing radiation treatment to the patient as prescribed by the radiation oncologist and established practices and policies of the department.Prepares and educates patients and families for simulation and treatmentSchedules and maintains patients for treatment courses and notify appropriate individuals, including if need be other departmentsProvides physical support while patients are under the supervision of the radiation therapistObserves and reassures patients during treatment and report unusual reactions to physicianRecords all treatment deliveries in patient’s electronic medical record. Maintains patient treatment record and quality checklistTakes all necessary photos of the patient for the permanent treatment recordReports and files a report of any treatment errors to the physics department and radiation oncologistPrepares and keeps stock of the treatment roomsActs as liaison within the department to proper communicationFollows principles of ALARA at all times within the radiation therapy departmentNotifies patients of delay in treatment due to machine malfunctionPerforms weekly chart checks, audits billing charges and export of charges

Radiation Therapy Equipment and Technology

Follows established procedures to operate linear accelerator and accessories, block fabrication, related EMR’s.Performs basic dosimetric calculationsDaily QA and accesses radiation therapy equipment for malfunction and reports them as necessaryTrains students of radiation therapyAdministers prescribed doses of radiation to specific body parts, using radiation therapy equipment according to established practices and standardsPrepares and constructs equipment such as immobilization devices as needed or prescribed by the physician. Prepares and keeps stock of the simulation and treatment rooms.Reviews and practices all policies and procedures within the department.Operates specified equipment within the radiation therapy department. Records and verify computer system, CT simulation, 3D positional trackingPositions patients for treatment with accuracy according to prescription. Reviews prescription, diagnosis, patient chart, and identification of patientHelps physicians, physicists, and dosimetrists to prepare physical and technical aspects of radiation treatment plans, using information about patient condition and anatomyPerform portal dosimetry QA at the direction of the physicistDemonstrates knowledge of emergency procedures for each machine and if needed turn equipment off if unexpected adverse reactions occurUnderstand the safety protocols related to contrast

Required Qualifications

Associate of Arts for radiation therapySuccessful radiation therapy school completionARRT Radiology TechBasic Life Support (American Heart Assoc or Red Cross)ARRT registration in radiation therapy or be registry-eligible by completing the appropriate school of radiation therapy through an accredited program. Continuing education in radiation therapy field and must continue to hold ARRT registry within 90 Days
