Learn more at https://www.jnj.com The typical Co-Op term is from May 2026 – November 2026. **Summary** Join a device engineering team within J&J Innovative Medicine to design, develop, and test advanced urological drug delivery systems. Gain practical experience in device design, materials testing, and product development processes while working on a cross-functional R&D engineering team. Expect to gain practical, hands-on engineering R&D laboratory testing experience as a major component of this position with the opportunity to make an impact in new product introductions. Contribute to engineering analyses of progressive complexity. **Key Responsibilities** • You will work independently under the guidance and mentorship of a supervising engineer to advance design and manufacture of urological drug delivery systems, and you will function as a team contributor/collaborator within an engineering team. • You will work on multiple engineering project teams balancing project tasks and communicating with both technical and managerial audiences. • You will design and run experiments under engineering supervision. • You will prepare samples for experimental testing which will include operating basic and advanced metrology tools and equipment such as contact-based direct dimensional measurement, mechanical load frames, and non-contact dimensional measurement such as high-magnification machine vision equipment and software. • You will develop lab-scale machine-vision inspection methods and support method development and transfer to manufacturing partners. • You will independently perform mechanical tests (load frames, force transducers) to evaluate material properties and functional performance of products, product systems, and product components. • You will design and fabricate prototyping aids and test fixtures using 3D CAD modelling software, 3D printing resources, and basic model shop tools as required. • You will maintain a laboratory notebook documenting your studies consistent with Quality System governance. • You will participate in meetings with external partners and in design/technical reviews • You will support complaint investigations and root-cause analyses, as needed. • You will author test protocols, reports, verification documentation, and other Quality System documentation, as needed. • You will deliver a capstone oral presentation to the engineering team and other key department stakeholders at the end of the term highlighting your most significant contributions to the business. Students currently on CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT usually requires future sponsorship for long term employment and do not meet the requirements for this program unless eligible for an alternative long-term status that does not require company sponsorship. **Minimum Qualifications** • Currently enrolled in an ABET-accredited BS (or dual BS/MS) program in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering (other engineering majors with relevant experience will be considered) with GPA 3.0• Completed or enrolled in calculus, physics, statics/dynamics, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics • Proficient with Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and cloud file sharing tools • Intrinsically motivated to engage in the engineering process (design, build, test, analyze, and iterate) with focus on independent, hands-on experimentation under guidance from senior engineering staff • Acute attention to detail • Self-aware of strengths and weaknesses with capacity for humility and resilience when encountering new or difficult challenges • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to document technical work clearly **Preferred Qualifications** • Experience with universal test systems/load frames (Instron/Zwick) and machine-vision equipment (Keyence) • Knowledge and/or practice of materials testing, metrology, elastomeric material manufacturing processes, computational modeling, and advanced statistical techniques • Design thinking commonly associated with the conceptualization of integrated mechanical systems • Creative, practical, and solution-driven problem-solving • 3D CAD solid modelling (SolidWorks) and ASME Y14 drawing practices • Knowledge and/or practice of high-level computer programming • Algorithmic thinking commonly associated with the application of high-level programming languages (Python, MATLAB, R, C++/C#) for executing computational routines • Data collection and preparation for computational analysis using languages such as Python, MATLAB, C+• Familiarity with statistical analysis software like Minitab/JMP/SPSS, or statistical programming languages like R, C# or SAS, accompanied by ambition to learn and apply advanced statistical techniques • Familiarity with, and ambition to learn and apply, Six Sigma methodologies (DMAIC) • Familiarity with LLMs and prompt engineering to aid in the execution of job-related tasks Johnson & Johnson is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
