Job Description Summary

The Quantity Surveyor will be a key member of the Projects team, supporting the delivery of high quality commercial projects for clients across New Zealand in the Corrections portfolio. Reporting to Corrections Project Delivery Manager, this role contributes to the leadership and financial stewardship of projects across multiple sectors, ensuring outcomes are delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities

In this varied and rewarding role, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Project Financial & Commercial Management

Support Project Managers with financial oversight of minor and major works across multiple sectors and client portfolios.Prepare and maintain project budgets, cost plans, cashflows, and financial reports.Lead pricing negotiations with vendors, suppliers, and contractors to ensure competitive, value‑driven outcomes.

Procurement & Contract Management

Manage the end-to-end procurement process, including tender preparation, evaluation, recommendation, and contract execution.Undertake contract administration activities, including progress claims, variations, and final accounts.Ensure all procurement activities follow internal governance processes and industry best practice.

Project Controls & Delivery Support

Support project planning, scheduling, monitoring, and reporting to ensure delivery within cost, quality, and time constraints.Apply critical thinking and problem‑solving skills to proactively address risks, issues, and commercial challenges.Assist in the administration and coordination of project documentation, approvals, and compliance requirements.

Professional Development & Leadership

Demonstrate a strong desire to develop toward delivering complex projects and contributing at a senior level.Build capability in negotiation and conflict resolution.Support continuous improvement initiatives within the PDS team.

Background and Experience

Qualifications

Diploma or Degree in Quantity Surveying or a relevant construction‑related discipline.Additional tertiary qualifications in Project Management, Construction Management, Engineering, or similar are advantageous.Trade background with significant refurbishment experience may be considered.

Experience

3–5 years’ experience in the construction or property development industry.Minimum 2 years’ experience within the New Zealand market.Proven experience delivering small to medium commercial projects; Tier 1 contractor or consultancy experience preferred.Strong understanding of construction methodologies, cost management, and procurement processes.Proficiency in MS Office and MS Project.
