The Opportunity
We are looking for a Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial management of upcoming projects. You will help ensure the project is delivered successfully from a financial and contractual standpoint, protecting the business from commercial risk and maintaining full compliance with company procedures. Working closely with the Managing Quantity Surveyor and project team, you will play a key role in cost control, supply chain management, and ensuring the project’s commercial success.
What you will be doing
Support the Managing QS in implementing commercial procedures and best practice. Assist with sub-contract procurement, tendering and drafting sub-contract documents. Provide accurate commercial data for monthly cost and performance reporting. Work with the Project Manager to administer sub-contracts and monitor sub-contractor performance. Issue required contract notices and support change control processes. Price main contract variations and assess sub-contract variations. Identify design changes and support value-engineering opportunities. Contribute to delay records and extension-of-time submissions. Prepare main contract payment applications and manage sub-contractor payments. Support dispute avoidance and assist with resolving commercial issues. Attend relevant commercial and project meetings. Maintain accurate records and contribute to lessons-learned processes. Provide support and guidance to junior commercial staff.What we need from you
Good understanding of the construction industry and standard forms of contract. Strong skills in measurement, valuation and interpreting drawings/specifications. Experience preparing cost/value reports and assessing variations. Able to negotiate with sub-contractors and manage procurement activities. Knowledge of CIS requirements and commercial legislation. Experience on live projects; education or healthcare sector experience is a plus. Strong IT skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint essential). CSCS card required; SSSTS/SMSTS desirable. Professional membership (RICS, CIOB, ICES) or working towards – desirable. Experience using COINS – beneficial.What we can offer you
