What You’ll Be Doing

You will be joining the team as an experienced detail-oriented professional, collaborating closely with traders to design and implement trading strategies, leveraging data analysis to define key trading parameters and drive continuous improvement.

You will lead quantitative research initiatives for trading, market‑making and hedging models, and risk management tools for the equity trading platform. The role involves delivering technical solutions to support trading requirements and collaborating closely with technology, compliance, and other stakeholders. You will work daily with teams across Global Markets, including trading desks and research groups, and periodically partner with Technology/Operations and Legal/Compliance to ensure robust system support and adherence to regulatory requirements.

You will apply your experience and subject‑matter expertise to support colleagues and contribute new perspectives. The role involves proactively identifying opportunities to improve existing processes and strategies, developing new approaches where appropriate, and independently driving enhancements. You will also identify and address operational and analytical bottlenecks to improve efficiency and effectiveness across the platform.

The expected annualized base salary range for this role is $125,000 - 150,000.

The base salary is determined by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s skills, experience, and job-related knowledge, as well as geographic location and specific business needs. Our compensation philosophy supports ongoing growth and development, enabling progression within the salary range as team members advance in their roles.

In addition to base pay, compensation for this role includes participation in an annual discretionary incentive or bonus program.

How You'll Succeed

Research - Lead the development and implementation of quantitatively driven trading strategies.

Analysis - Perform statistical analysis on historical market data and real-time order flow data to identify profitable trading opportunities

Strategy - Develop back testing processes to quickly evaluate different trading strategies and models

Solutions - Present research findings and solutions for trading processes to business leaders

Modeling - Participate in model development, validation, maintenance and infrastructure monitoring and support the development cycles with CIBC Technology department

Who You Are

You have an undergraduate or master’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Physics or Engineering

You can demonstrate 3-10 years of experience developing trading systems, trade execution strategies or alpha-driven trading strategies

You can demonstrate a strong understanding of concepts from probability theory, statistics and numerical analysis underpinning modern financial models

You have demonstrated interest in research advancements in the areas of financial mathematics and machine learning as well as comprehensive knowledge of financial markets and products

It is a benefit if you have knowledge of Canadian equity market microstructure and ETFs as well as working with market data from different vendors like Bloomberg and exchanges

You are able to communicate advanced concepts to partners across different lines of business

You are technically savvy. Experience developing applications in C++ or Python and developing insights into complex problems by analyzing large data sets with SQL Server or an equivalent database type to drive decision making

You solve problems well using analytical skills and a strong attention to detail

You must be a strong self-starter and able to work well independently in a dynamic business environment.

You are naturally curious and passionate about solving problems with high quality solutions
