Job Description The Quality Engineer plays a pivotal role in supporting the commitment to superior craftsmanship and continuous improvements. This position is responsible for driving daily quality initiatives, planning and executing targeted improvement projects, and acting as a key liaison between operations, engineering, and customers. The Quality Engineer analyzes nonconformances, conducts root-cause investigations, implements corrective and preventive actions, enhances inspection methods and procedures, leads AS9102 First Article submissions, conducts internal audits, and supports successful new product introductions. Additionally, this role mentors inspection personnel, maintains compliance with ISO-9001/AS-9100 standards, installs and monitors statistical process controls, and champions 6S activities to ensure a safe, efficient, and high-performing aerospace manufacturing environment. Responsibilities + Drive daily quality initiatives and plan targeted improvement projects. + Serve as a key liaison between operations, engineering, and customers. + Analyze nonconformances and perform root-cause investigations. + Implement corrective and preventive actions. + Enhance inspection methods and procedures. + Lead AS9102 First Article submissions. + Conduct internal audits. + Support successful new product introductions. + Mentor inspection personnel. + Maintain compliance with ISO-9001/AS-9100 standards. + Install and monitor statistical process controls. + Champion 6S activities in the aerospace manufacturing environment. Essential Skills + First article inspection, root cause analysis, and QMS exposure. + Proficiency in GD&T and blueprint reading. + Strong leadership potential with excellent communication and soft skills. + Ability to manage projects and complete them in a timely manner. + Experience with ISO-9001 or AS-9100 Quality Management Systems. + Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office. + Basic understanding of 6S and blueprint reading. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Quality Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment. + Experience with common machine shop gauging and techniques. + Ability to identify areas for improvement and think strategically. + Ability to identify root cause and determine corrective actions. + Bachelor’s Degree or 5+ years of experience in a Quality Engineering environment. + ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) preferred. + Thorough understanding of inspection methods, techniques, and equipment. + Experience in the aerospace industry. + Strong understanding of AS9102 First Article submittal process. + Ability to perform internal audits independently. + Must pass an annual eye exam by a licensed optometrist. Work Environment This position is based onsite in Westfield, MA, with occasional travel to Southwick, MA. The workweek consists of 45 hours, typically from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM. The work environment is a normal production setting, subject to high noise levels from operating machines, physical hazards from moving equipment and sharp machine parts, exposure to fumes, dust, mist, oil, and cutting fluid, as well as sharp metal edges and forklifts.
