Job Description
This position performs product qualification, development, and failure analysis experiments; designs, prepares, and executes connector tests and provides results in a reportable form for consultation with lab staff and customers. The role works with and contributes to continuous improvement as part of a cross-functional team. Customer satisfaction is the primary objective, and the technician will become knowledgeable in lab quality, safety, and site administrative policies and is expected to act in a manner consistent with these policies.
ResponsibilitiesOrganizes, identifies, and prepares connector samples for subsequent testing and performance characteristic measurement.Operates and maintains professional test, measurement, and data acquisition equipment.Discusses objectives with lab staff members and/or customers to determine optimum preparation techniques for evaluation of electrical and mechanical characteristics of connector systems under evaluation.Develops techniques to customize and adapt test samples to test and measurement equipment.Records test equipment operation data.Compiles measurement data in statistical and/or graphical form and summarizes for consulting purposes.Coordinates and plans necessary support from within and outside the Laboratory environment for preparation of test fixtures and special tests.Procures basic laboratory supplies.Prepares samples using techniques such as soldering, wire stripping, wire crimping, solvent cleaning, and basic hand tools.Operates environmental test chambers, mechanical shock/vibration testers, and x-ray 3-D machinery.Measures tensile, insertion, retention, extraction, mating/unmating, and normal forces using a compression/tensile tester.Measures electrical characteristics such as contact resistance, insulation resistance, dielectric strength, and current rating.Performs chemical tests such as solderability and contact plating porosity.Executes simple qualification test schedules and develops sample ID schemes.Interprets product specifications, industry standards, and customer specifications in order to perform required testing.Compares product performance with anticipated results and/or known industry standards.Attends and participates in meetings to exchange information and resolve problems.Records results either manually or from the operation of computer-controlled data acquisition systems.Completes equipment operating logs, memos, reports, etc. to communicate or make a record.Trains new lab technicians in the operation of a limited amount of test equipment.Essential SkillsKnowledge of electronics, mechanical, and electrical testing.Experience in quality testing and analysis.Proficiency in using hand tools related to the electronic industry.Ability to inspect, assemble, and prototype electronic components.Experience with surface-mount technology and microscope inspection.Ability to read blueprints and understand PCB and circuit board assembly.Understanding of basic connector performance parameters and related characteristics.Skills to perform limited chemical, mechanical, electrical, and environmental exposure tests.Knowledge of standard statistical techniques.Proficiency in using personal computers.Additional Skills & QualificationsAS or AAS degree in mechanical technology or a related field, or 2+ years of current, equivalent experience.Demonstrated ability to use standard statistical techniques.Understanding of the principles of operation of a limited amount of test equipment.Why Work Here?

Work Environment
This role is within a connector manufacturing environment, where the company manufactures, assembles, and distributes electronic connectors.
Monday to Friday from 6:45 am to 3:15 pm.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $21.00 - $22.00/hr.
