Quality Assurance Engineer
Job Title: Quality Assurance Engineer Actalent is looking to hire talent to support a growing regional client in the industrial machining and fabrication space. These consultant-to-hire opportunities are long-term and local to the Portland area. Job Description The Quality Assurance Engineer will play a pivotal role in ensuring product quality and compliance within a manufacturer specializing in precision machined components and complex steel fabrication. This position focuses on quality assurance activities and creating robust documentation packages to meet required quality standards and specifications. Responsibilities + Establish inspection criteria, test plans, and documentation to achieve the most reliable and compliant outcomes. + Validate effective execution in documentation packages of requirements. + Create quality cost estimates, including evaluation of vendor quality capabilities and alternatives. + Support sales staff in creating winning bids, including writing quality assurance sections of bid letters and producing supporting documentation such as certifications and test reports. + Oversee technical quality aspects throughout the project lifecycle. + Manage quality documentation flow between client, engineering, detailing, and production teams. + Coordinate vendor quality audits and technical procurements. + Perform jobsite and vendor visits to verify compliance, conduct audits, and resolve quality issues. + Evaluate and select inspection methods, tools, and gauges for optimal defect detection. + Coordinate with outside or client quality representatives. + Produce quality control drawings and inspection plans using CAD. + Perform statistical analysis and calculations using Excel or specialty software. Essential Skills + Proficiency in quality assurance and documentation management. + Experience in documentation package creation and validation. + Strong background in quality engineering and quality control. + Familiarity with supplier quality management. + Knowledge of ISO 9001 and AS9100 standards. + Proficient in Excel, CAD, and Word. + Excellent written and verbal communication skills. + Excellent planning and organizational skills. + Problem-solving mentality. + High attention to detail is vital, particularly in computer and documentation tasks. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Bachelor's degree in Engineering, with a preference for Mechanical Engineering, or similar. + 5+ years of experience in a related field. + Knowledge of nuclear standards is highly preferred. Work Environment The role is based onsite in the southeastern part of the Portland Metro, with working hours from Monday to Friday, 8 am to 4:30 pm. The position is primarily office-based, with some time spent on the production floor. The QAE will validate completed activities and ensure correct documentation, without performing physical inspections or quality control tasks. Benefits include sick time, 8 holidays, and a week of PTO for the first year of the consulting contract. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $38.46 - $52.88/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
