Purchasing Specialist
Job Title: Purchasing SpecialistJob Description

We are seeking an experienced Purchasing Specialist to manage the end-to-end procurement process for raw materials, including sheet metal, round bar, plastics, and related materials. This role requires strong negotiation skills and the ability to maintain detailed records of materials over the past 20 years to ensure best value, quality, and timely delivery.

ResponsibilitiesEvaluate vendor quotations and negotiate for best value, quality, and delivery timelines.Prepare and process requisitions and purchase orders to meet production schedules.Maintain compliance documentation and accurate material records in the ERP system.Monitor and manage inventory levels to avoid shortages and production delays.Collaborate with the manufacturing floor to understand material requirements and ensure proper specifications are met.Verify material thickness, grades, and types to align with engineering and production needs.Build and maintain strong relationships with raw material suppliers and contractors.Partner with management and production teams to identify cost-saving opportunities and process improvements.
Essential Skills2+ years of purchasing/procurement experience with raw materials in a manufacturing environment.Strong knowledge of sheet metal, round bar, plastics, and related materials, including types and grades.Experience with ERP or MRP systems, particularly E2Jobbotsquared.Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, for creating spreadsheets and managing data entry and inventory.Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with an emphasis on asking questions and clarifying details.
Additional Skills & QualificationsFamiliarity with ISO 9001 quality systems is preferred.Experience with DFARS compliance material procurement is a plus.
Work Environment

The role is based in an office setting with frequent communication with vendors, engineers, and the manufacturing shop. The company is small but continuously evolving and growing, adding individuals to the team as the volume of work increases.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Norfolk, Virginia.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00/hr.
