POSITION SUMMARY

Implement Pilot Plant activities related to the research and development of new and improved products. Perform experimental objectives, design, and interpretation of results for product development in collaboration with the R&D team.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Prepare R&D samples and maintain accurate records, including weight, measurements, time, temperature, pressure, rpm, vacuum, pH, yields, texture, and chemistry. Order raw ingredients, conduct ingredient screenings, complete safety and storage documentation, batch formulas, and communicate formula observations to the R&D team. Review technical data sheets, build prototypes, and test new designs and ingredients in the pilot plant to ensure compliance with quality standards before production. Maintain documentation related to testing, recipes, and formulations. Operate food manufacturing equipment. Provide day‑to‑day guidance for Pilot Plant Food Technicians and support with feedback related to hiring, disciplinary actions, and training. Develop, implement, and manage Pilot Plant HACCP procedures. Ensure R&D products adhere to all food safety regulations and standards. Perform all Quality Program checks developed for Pilot Plant products. Other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Culinary Arts, a science‑related field, or equivalent work experience. Two years of experience working in processed meat manufacturing.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSAs) Strong sense of responsibility, ownership, and pride in delivering quality results for R&D.  Proven ability to work accurately under pressure, meet deadlines, present a professional demeanor, and work well independently. 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to stand, use hands to handle materials, and reach with arms. Frequent walking is required, with occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking, or hearing.
The associate may be required to lift at least 25 lbs.
Vision requirements may include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
Work may involve exposure to moving mechanical parts, chemicals, fumes, or airborne particles. Noise levels range from normal office conditions to loud.
