Our established Community Development group is looking for an experienced Public Works Civil Engineer-in-Training to focus on road and site improvements projects for various cities and public agency clients. You will help to deliver preliminary engineering, final engineering construction drawings, and construction support for public works roadway corridors and site development projects. This is your chance to make an impact in our local, national and global communities. Your Opportunity The ideal candidate will bring a technical background in public works projects. This role will support the Public Works Leader and project managers from other Stantec disciplines across the western US. As a Civil Engineer-in-Training, you will be responsible for preparing technical design solutions. Your Key Responsibilities The Civil Engineer-in-Training will work in collaboration with the Public Works team for the preparation of engineering deliverables, such as design drawings, quantity calculations and cost estimates, construction specifications, and engineering studies and reports to industry and regulatory agency standards. - Assist with developing and managing the project scope, budget, and schedule. - Support the Public Works Civil Engineer preparing grading, drainage, wet utility, street improvements, and other civil engineering design documents, as well as hydrology/hydraulic storm water modeling and hydraulic modeling of pipe networks. - Prepare and revise documentation for projects from feasibility analysis to construction close out. - Participate in constructability review. - Prepare construction quantity estimates and basic opinion of cost analysis. - Participate in coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, subcontractors, and vendors. - Coordinate with design teams, subconsultants and other project partners to ensure on time delivery, technical quality and within budget - Perform field work/construction observation under the supervision of a senior engineer/designer and/or construction manager as needed. - Collect and analyse data and perform calculations that support civil system design decisions and development process. - Interpret and verify compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards and practices. - Utilize three-dimensional technologies and modeling software in development, design and analysis of civil systems. - Assist in the review of shop drawings and submittals, respond to request for information, prepare site observation reports, and perform other contract administration tasks. - Perform other duties as assigned. Your Capabilities and Credentials - Strong problem-solving skills related to the delivery of infrastructure projects. - Comprehensive technical understanding of various phases of infrastructure projects, including conventional and alternative delivery methods. - Ability to effectively communicate ideas to others. - Experience with technical guidelines, codes and construction standards of key public authorities - Knowledge of civil systems means and methods, materials, and industry standards. - Excellent time-management skills and ability to work independently. - Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought. - Strong oral and written communication skills. - Strong understanding of the functionality of relevant design software, including AutoCAD, Civil3D and Auto-Turn, locally accepted hydrology and hydraulic programs, etc. - Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite Education and Experience - Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering. - Minimum 2 years of experience. - Possess a valid driver's license and good driving record. Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
