Public Policy Manager, New Zealand
Description The AWS Public Policy Manager, New Zealand, will contribute to the development of public policy and political priorities for AWS and undertake advocacy with relevant officials in New Zealand. This role is a 12-month Fixed Term Parental Leave cover. Key job responsibilities • Play a key role in the development of public policy and political priorities for AWS and undertake engagement and advocacy with relevant officials in New Zealand; • Advance AWS’s policy positions directly and through industry associations/coalitions to enable an unrestricted, transparent and technology friendly regulatory environment that enables and supports the growth of AWS; • Assess and communicate potential regulatory issues and public sector business opportunities and develop mitigations, enhancement strategies, and policy positions. • Coordinate external advocacy efforts, outreach programs and key initiatives in concert with various AWS teams including sales, public relations and marketing; • Facilitate meetings between AWS executives and key stakeholders, including senior government officials, regulators and industry associations to promote and advocate for the company’s public policies; • Work collaboratively and transparently with AWS public sector, commercial business, infrastructure and corporate services teams to align core business priorities, public policy goals and “go to market” strategies; • Contribute to opportunities in industry associations/bodies on behalf of AWS, and ensure appropriate utilisation of high judgment, high integrity outside consultants; • Contribute to the development of public policy positions for AWS in the Asia-Pacific region and globally; and • Contribute to public policy initiatives as directed. Basic Qualifications • 5+ years’ experience working in the public or private sector on public policy development, preferably in the technology, digital transformation and/or communications area. • Demonstrated ability to develop public policy initiatives and/or participate in the analysis and review of existing public policies. • A record of accomplishment of successful policy development and adjustment. • A thorough understanding of the end-to-end legislative process, including legislative development, committee processes and parliamentary procedures. • A professional network in the New Zealand public sector or a demonstrated ability to acquire a network of key contacts in a short period. • Bachelor's Degree in relevant discipline • Exceptional written and oral communication skills Preferred Qualifications • An understanding of the interaction and interrelations between officials and Ministerial offices, political groups and associated entities. • Ability to demonstrate sound judgment in ambiguous circumstances and complicated policy and stakeholder settings. • Ability to work independently while being able to contribute successfully to cross-functional teams. • Excellent organizational skills, ability to manage multiple projects at once. • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills • A high level of comfort with technology issues and and a desire to keep learning about the interesection of policy and technology • Confident user of technology, including artificial intelligence tools • Postgraduate degree in relevant discipline • Common sense, great judgment, and a good sense of humour Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers.
