Department Details:
The Kaiser Permanente Northern California Division of Research transforms health through research and finds the best ways to deliver health care to our members and society. The Division is one of the nation-s largest research facilities outside of a government or university setting. We are the primary professional home of more than 70 research scientists and 700 staff members who lead studies in epidemiology, health services, and clinical trials. Our studies cover a wide range of clinical topics, including cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, substance abuse, mental health, maternal and child health, and women-s health. Our research addresses broad issues, including the role of genes and the environment in health, the influence of behavior on disease prevention and chronic illness management, drug safety, health care policy, health services delivery, and disparities. We have more than 600 ongoing projects and contribute more than 550 scientific papers to peer-reviewed journals each year.
Internship Projects:
The intern will join a research team dedicated to improving the lives of women and children by applying rigorous epidemiologic methods to understand how physical activity, sleep, and other lifestyle behaviors contribute to physical and mental health throughout the life course, including during childhood, pregnancy, postpartum, and midlife. The intern will help support recruitment and data collection activities for a National Institutes of Health-funded research study investigating how daily physical activity, sedentary behavior, sleep, and overall, 24-hour movement patterns during pregnancy impact the development of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy. The intern will participate in participant recruitment activities, including preparing and sending recruitment letters and emails; data collection activities, including sending study questionnaires and reminders to complete surveys, mailing study devices, and monitoring survey responses. The intern will also join our weekly team meetings to discuss study progress.
