Schedule/Hours:
Monday-Friday (40-hours weekly)
6AM to 6PM (8-hour shifts)
Requirements
Education:
Prosthetic technicians must graduate form an ABC accredited institution. Years of experience maybe substituted for education at the discretion of the department.Certifications:
Shall have current Basic Life Support (BLS) by way of the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.Experience:
Shall have a minimum of two (2) years' experience as a prosthetic/orthotic technician within the past five (5) years. Background experience and proficiency in general fabrication procedures of orthotic prosthetic devices, which include working with thermal plastic, lamination, resin, metal, leather, plaster and prosthetic/orthotic components.Duties:
Fabricates maintain, and repair artificial limb, orthopedic brace, surgical support, plaster casts and other orthopedic or prosthetic devices, according to prescription specifications and under guidance of a Prosthetist/Orthotist.Read directions to determine type of fabrication materials and tools required to produce a prosthetic or orthotic device.Lay out and mark dimensions of parts, using precision measuring instruments and templates.Bend, form, weld, saw, carve, cut, and grind wood, plastic, metal, or fabric to fabricate parts, using hammers, anvils, saws and cutting machines and hand cutting tools.Drill and tap hole for rivets, rivets components, and screws, using drill press.Glue, bolt, sew, and rivet part together to form orthopedic device or prostheses, such as braces and artificial limbs.Shape plastic and/or metal around cast of patient's torso or limbs.Cover and pad metal or plastic brace structures, using layers of rubber, felt, plastic and leather.Assemble layers of padding over prosthesis and fits and attaches outer covering, such as leather, sheet plastic, or fiberglass, over device, using sewing machine, rivet gun, and hand tools.Mix pigments according to formula to duplicate skin coloring of patient and apply pigment to outer covering of prosthesis.Polish finished device, using grinding and buffing wheel.Test orthopedic device or prosthesis for freedom of movement, alignment of parts, and biomechanical stability, using plumb line, goniometer, and alignment fixtures.As a GiaCare Inc. employee, you may enjoy the following benefits:
