Job Description
This role involves managing accounting operations for a portfolio of residential properties, typically ranging from six to eight communities. ResponsibilitiesOversee the monthly financial close process, including validating rental income and security deposit records.Reconcile revenue streams and accounts receivable.Review and approve invoices and tenant move-out statements.Post journal entries for various transactions such as bad debt, fees, taxes, and accruals.Manage fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.Ensure accuracy in general ledger accounts.Adhere to reporting timelines and escalate issues proactively.Collaborate with property teams to resolve discrepancies and respond to inquiries.Perform bank reconciliations and analyze payment activity.Prepare financial documentation for lenders and partners.Process tax payments and manage electronic fund transfers.Produce financial statements and support audit and tax filings.Contribute to special projects as needed.Essential SkillsStrong grasp of GAAP and real estate accounting practices.Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills.Proactive, adaptable, and committed to continuous learning.Customer-focused with strong communication abilities.Familiarity with internal controls and financial reporting standards.Experience with property management software (Yardi preferred).Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.Minimum of three years’ experience in residential property accounting.Additional Skills & QualificationsBackground in affordable housing and joint ventures is advantageous.Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration preferred.Experience in property management/real estate industry is required, commercial experience is acceptable.ERP experience with Yardi preferred but open to others.Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs.Work Environment
The team consists of four property accountants, one accounting manager, and one assistant controller. The position will initially report to the assistant controller but may eventually report to the accounting manager. The work schedule includes two remote days and three onsite days per week. The company culture values eagerness to learn, collaboration, strong communication skills, and a personable nature. Performance is primarily measured by the ability to close the month-end process within seven days.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $95000.00/yr.
