About the Role

The Project / Staff Accountant will manage AP, AR, project accounting, AIA billing, financial reporting, and compliance for multiple active projects. You’ll partner closely with Project Managers and leadership while ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and strong financial controls.

Key ResponsibilitiesProject and Financial AccountingPrepare and analyze financial statements, management reports, and project cost summaries.Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts and bank statements.Track cost‑to‑complete, WIP, and project profitability.Support month‑end and year‑end close processes.Engage in projects from kickoff through closeout.Accounts ReceivablePrepare customer invoices, including AIA billing.Record AR transactions, cash receipts, and maintain customer account accuracy.Set up customers and projects within the accounting system.Accounts PayableProcess vendor invoices and manage payment cycles.Maintain vendor files, W‑9s, insurance certificates, and compliance documentation.Resolve discrepancies through direct communication with vendors.Tax, Audit, and ComplianceFile sales and use tax.Assist with internal and external audits.Maintain accurate and compliant financial records.Collaboration and Process ImprovementPartner with Project Managers to align financial forecasts and project budgets.Support onboarding and training of junior accounting team members.Assist with system enhancements, process optimization, and special projects.Required QualificationsFive or more years of accounting experience, including AP and AR.Construction industry accounting experience required.Experience with project accounting and AIA billing.Proficiency with Sage 300 and Excel.Strong communication and organizational skills.Ability to thrive in a deadline‑driven, multitask environment.Preferred QualificationsExperience in a small or midsize construction firm.Interest in long‑term career advancement.Ability to identify and implement process improvements.Work Environment
