Project Planning Engineering Intern
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. + Ensure that all HPSI safety procedures, rules and regulations are communicated, understood, and followed. + Assist Project Planning in their weekly production support activities. + Support data collection and analysis, including reviewing engineering models and assisting with necessary adjustments to project schedules. + Create and modify Project Planning Support Drawings utilizing AutoCAD. + Create, update, and maintain schedule progress reports to support project tracking and decision-making. + Perform data management and reporting using ERP/SAP systems and Primavera P6 scheduling software. + Reproduce and manage design drawings, production drawings, and Design Change Notices (DCNs). + Provide technical and administrative support for miscellaneous departmental projects as required. + Temporarily support the shipyard’s Hull Design (structure), Outfitting and Electrical Design, Production, Procurement or Quality Control Departments in various ship production activities. + Performs other related duties as required and assigned. COMPETENCIES + Analytical & Data Management Skills-Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data to support planning decisions, reporting, and continuous improvement. + Attention to Detail-Strong accuracy in handling drawings, schedules, data entry, and documentation such as DCNs and production drawings. + Collaboration-Ability to work effectively with various teams including Hull Design, Outfitting, Electrical Design, Production, Procurement, and Quality Control teams. + Communication Skills-Clear verbal and written communication with project planners, engineers, production teams, and cross-functional stakeholders. + Initiative & Accountability-Proactive approach to tasks, ownership of responsibilities, and reliability in completing assignments. + Organization & Time Management-Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced production environment. + Problem-Solving & Critical Thinking-Ability to identify schedule conflicts, data gaps, or planning issues and support resolution with guidance. + Project Planning-Understanding of project schedules, milestones, and production planning concepts, with the ability to support schedule updates and progress tracking. + Technical Drawing & CAD Skills-Developing proficiency in AutoCAD and the ability to create, modify, and manage engineering and support drawings. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTY This position has no supervisory responsibilities. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE + Rising sophomores, juniors, or seniors pursuing degrees currently pursuing a degree or certificate in Mechanical Engineering. + Minimum GPA: 3.0 + Coursework or experience in project planning, production management, or data analysis is preferred. + Proficiency with MS Office and 2D CAD systems, such as AutoCAD + Familiarity with technical drawings, design change notices, and production documentation is beneficial. + Strong organizational and multitasking skills; ability to work in a fast-paced shipyard environment. + Previous internship, co-op, or hands-on experience in shipbuilding, manufacturing, or production support is advantageous but not required. WORK ENVIRONMENT Environmental exposures are similar to those found in most heavy industrial settings and may include noise, heat, cold, vibration, dust, fumes and smoke. Work may be executed indoors or outdoors and may involve exposure to inclement weather conditions. * Hanwha Philly Shipyard is a TOBACCO FREE facility.
