Project Planner
KBR has an immediate need for a dynamic Project Planner in support of the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Earth Resources Observation & Science (EROS) Center (http://eros.usgs.gov/) near Sioux Falls, SD (http://www.siouxfalls.org).
Position Summary
The Project Planner is a key member of the Task Planning and Controls Office (TPCO), which is responsible for the planning and execution of all task order-based projects under the Technical Support Services Contract (TSSC). The Project Planner collaborates with task managers to build resource‑loaded schedules, manage resource allocation for forecasting and cost reporting, and ensure accurate data, deliverable tracking, and variance analysis for leadership decisions. The Project Planner also contributes to continuous process improvement initiatives and fosters collaboration across teams.
Key Responsibilities
Scheduling & Planning
Develop and maintain work breakdown structures (WBSs), integrated schedules, project milestones, and deliverablesPerform schedule analysis, forecasting, and critical path reportingUse Primavera P6, MS Project, and agile tools (JIRA, Confluence) for planning and executionProvide regular status updates to task managers and stakeholdersSupport scope definition and baseline managementApply resource‑loaded scheduling to forecast labor, materials, and cost performanceCost & Financial Reporting
Support cost performance reporting using Deltek CobraPrepare and deliver monthly financial reports and variance analysisAssist task managers with task plan preparation and modificationsTrack monthly deliverable status and project performanceTrack travel and non-labor costsRespond to project controls inquiries from customers and stakeholdersSupport Earned Value Management (EVM) processes and metricsProcess Improvement
Contribute to the development and refinement of TPCO processes and proceduresSupport change control and compliance with agency standards and regulationsRequired Qualifications
Associate's degree in Project Management, Engineering, Finance, or related fieldMinimum 1 year of experience in project management-related roleWorking knowledge of Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or equivalent software scheduling toolExcellent communication and organizational skillsProficiency in Microsoft Office and Windows environmentsPreferred Qualifications
PMP or equivalent certificationUnderstanding of project management principles and financial reportingFamiliarity with agile methodology and tools (Kanban, JIRA)SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Three years of continuous residency in the US for issuance of a Government Security credentialThe candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation after hiring to obtain a badge for government facility access and user accountExperience and/or Education in lieu of these qualifications will be reviewed for applicability to meet these requirements.
