Macmillan is seeking a highly skilled and experienced contract Technical Project Manager to lead a critical initiative: the migration of our data warehouse from Oracle to Snowflake. This is a key project that will drive significant improvements in our data analytics capabilities, and we need a strong leader to ensure its successful delivery. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of data warehousing principles, extensive project management expertise, and a proven track record of managing complex technical migrations.
Responsibilities:
Project Leadership and Execution: Lead the end-to-end delivery of the Oracle to Snowflake data warehouse migration project. Define project scope, objectives, and deliverables in collaboration with stakeholders. Develop and maintain a detailed project plan, including timelines, milestones, resource allocation, and budget. Manage project execution, ensuring adherence to the project plan, and proactively identify and resolve any issues or roadblocks. Coordinate the activities of a cross-functional team, including data engineers, database administrators, developers, and business analysts. Technical Management: Oversee all technical aspects of the migration, including data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes. Ensure data quality, integrity, and accuracy throughout the migration lifecycle. Manage the design and implementation of the target Snowflake data warehouse environment. Coordinate with infrastructure and operations teams to ensure a smooth transition and minimal disruption to business operations. Evaluate and select appropriate migration tools and technologies. Stakeholder Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for project stakeholders, including business users, IT leadership, and external vendors. Communicate project status, progress, and risks effectively and regularly to all stakeholders. Manage stakeholder expectations and ensure alignment on project goals and deliverables. Facilitate project meetings, workshops, and presentations. Risk and Issue Management: Identify, assess, and analyze project risks and issues. Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans. Proactively manage and resolve project issues to minimize impact on project timelines and budget. Project Management Tools: Utilize Jira to create, track, and manage project tasks, workflows, and dependencies. Use Confluence to document project plans, technical specifications, decisions, and meeting minutes, ensuring a centralized repository of project knowledge. Employ Asana for task management, team collaboration, and progress tracking, as needed, ensuring seamless coordination across teams. Quality and Governance: Establish and maintain project management best practices and standards. Ensure project deliverables meet quality requirements and are delivered on time and within budget. Manage project change control processes. Ensure compliance with relevant data governance and security policies.Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. PMP or equivalent project management certification is highly preferred. Minimum of [Number] years of experience managing complex technical projects, with a focus on data warehouse migrations. Proven experience in leading Oracle to Snowflake data warehouse migration projects is a significant advantage. Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts, principles, and best practices. Experience with database technologies, including Oracle and Snowflake. Proficiency in SQL and data manipulation languages. Experience with ETL processes and tools. Demonstrated expertise in using Jira, Confluence, and Asana for project management, collaboration, and documentation. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment. Experience managing vendor relationships.Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with cloud-based data warehousing solutions. Knowledge of data modeling techniques. Experience with Agile project management methodologies.
