Moog is looking for a Project Engineering Supervisor (Section Head) to lead a team of 4-6 Project Engineers in analysis, conceptual design, developing, and integrating electromechanical and electro-hydraulic Test Equipment that will test flight control systems for military aircraft. Reporting to a Test Systems Manager, you will have a 9/80 schedule option with hybrid work (at least 3 days/week in the office) in Torrance, CA.
As a Project Engineering Section Head, you will:
Lead a team of Project Engineers assigned to oversee technical, cost and schedule performance for development programs.
Supervise your direct reports, providing technical mentoring and training to develop your team’s competency, skills, and efficiency to meet test equipment engineering global standards.
Work together with the Test Systems Leadership to assign engineers to projects as required and be accountable for your team’s performance in the execution of their project responsibilities.
Ensure process compliance and participate in process development to improve efficiency and rigor.
Perform performance reviews for assigned staff and participate in workforce planning and recruiting/hiring.
In addition to leadership responsibilities, the section head is also expected to serve as a direct individual contributor to assigned projects at 50 – 75% capacity. In order to serve directly as a Project Engineer on Test Equipment (TE) projects, and to effectively mentor the assigned team, the section head for Project Engineering will need competency in the following disciplines:
Validate conceptual problem solutions by performing trade studies and analyses.
Document designs, analyses, and test results with accurate and concise reports.
Set the direction for the technical engineering team, coordinate a team of designers, drafters, analysts, technicians, and Systems engineers.
Proposal volume development and costing support.
Be the main technical contact for the customer.
To be considered for this role, here’s what you’ll typically bring with you:
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering
A minimum of 6 years’ experience in design/development engineering work experience skills OR Master’s Degree in Engineering with 3+ years of design/development engineering work experience
Travel - International engagement is a routine element of this role, and occasional travel (5-10%) is required
It’d be great if you also had:
Engineering leadership experience
Strong presentation skills and the ability to tailor the discussion to the audience
Strong written and oral communication skills
Master of Science Degree in Engineering
Experience in the aerospace/defense manufacturing industry strongly preferred
Possess strong people skills to lead assigned team, interface with other section heads, and global managers, and assist with globally matrixed projects
Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to mentor and coach engineers of various skill sets and experience
Working familiarity with the following is desired:
Having indirect (or direct) leadership and task assignment to cross-functional teams
Familiarity with Fault Management design and architecture development
Strengths in controls system design
Experience in Requirements Management, Verification and Validation Methods, and/or Integration and Test
Familiarity with MATLAB, Simulink, and dSpace hardware for system performance and real-time modeling
Experience in the aerospace industry
Experience with project planning, scheduling and resource loading; experience with MS Project.
Experience with EVMS fundamentals

The base salary range represents the low and high end of the Moog salary range for this position in the given work location. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance.
