Job Summary
The Project Engineer – Structural Steel is responsible for supporting the planning, coordination, and execution of structural steel activities for a large-scale civil bus terminal construction project. This role works closely with project management, field supervision, subcontractors, and design teams to ensure structural steel work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with project specifications and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Assist the Project Manager and Superintendent in managing all structural steel aspects of the project from preconstruction through closeout
Review structural drawings, shop drawings, and submittals for accuracy and coordination with other trades
Coordinate with structural steel fabricators, erectors, and subcontractors to maintain project schedule and sequencing
Track procurement and delivery of steel materials to ensure timely installation
Prepare and manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, and daily reports related to structural steel scope
Support scheduling efforts and monitor progress of steel erection activities
Conduct site walks to verify installation quality, safety compliance, and adherence to plans and specifications
Assist in cost tracking, quantity takeoffs, and budget control for steel packages
Coordinate inspections and testing with third-party agencies and ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards
Participate in project meetings and maintain clear communication with stakeholders
Maintain organized project documentation and records
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
2–5+ years of experience in construction, preferably with structural steel or heavy civil projects
Experience working on large infrastructure or transportation projects is a plus
Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication and erection processes
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., Procore, Primavera P6, Bluebeam, or similar)
Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced field environment and collaborate with diverse teams
