Job Title: Project Engineer

Job Description

The Project Engineer in Component Development is responsible for designing, analyzing, qualifying, certifying, and integrating aerospace pyrotechnic components and subsystems to meet stringent performance, safety, and regulatory standards. This role involves collaboration with design teams, system modeling and testing, and supporting the development lifecycle from concept through validation and certification. The engineer will also develop a certification plan for selected products aimed at commercial airworthiness applications.

Responsibilities

Develop detailed technical specifications for aerospace components, including structural, mechanical, and electronic systems.Work with the Sales team to identify commercial pyrotechnic requirements and products to design, develop, qualify, certify, and bring to market.Coordinate and perform testing and certification activities, including Lot testing and First Article Inspection.Conduct failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA), tolerance analysis, and other system safety assessments.Develop test plans, conduct validation testing, and analyze test results to verify component performance.Support environmental testing to ensure components withstand conditions such as vibration, temperature extremes, and atmospheric pressure.Ensure all designs comply with relevant aerospace and defense standards, regulations, and quality systems (such as AS9100) and customer specifications.Author, document, and publish technical specifications, test procedures, and verification reports according to project requirements.Support certification processes and audits.

Essential Skills

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.Proven experience in aerospace component development, testing, or systems integration.Strong understanding of aerospace design standards and regulations (e.g., AS9100, FAA, EASA).Proficiency in CAD software (CATIA, SolidWorks), simulation tools (ANSYS, MATLAB), and test equipment.Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and environmental testing.Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.Strong knowledge of ERP systems, SAP, Sightline, Sage, Epicor.Strong knowledge of Microsoft applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint.Effective leadership and team management abilities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Project management experience or familiarity with the aerospace development lifecycle.Industry certifications related to aerospace engineering (e.g., ASQ certifications, IPC certifications).Experience with compliance documentation and certification processes.Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and meet critical deadlines.Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Morristown, NJ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
