In this role, you’ll help run what runs the world, by taking on meaningful work that drives real impact.  Join us as a Project Engineer and take a role as the design authority for engineering deliverables. In this position, you will work across the full lifecycle of software‑focused industrial engineering projects, including system design, development, validation, installation, diagnostics, remote support, migrations, and upgrades. You will contribute to both small projects and defined work packages within larger programs, ensuring all work is delivered efficiently and in line with contract requirements, quality standards, safety practices, and cybersecurity policies.


-Work model:  hybrid #LI hybrid based in Grafton, Auckland, New Zealand, but subject to work at customer sites in the following regions: Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Hawkes Bay, Taranaki, Wellington, Nelson, Otago, Canterbury.
 

Designing and implementing DCS/PLC control systems, including concept development, configuration, validation, installation, and commissioning in line with ABB’s engineering execution and quality standards.Developing and modifying IEC 61131-based control software, ensuring seamless integration with system architecture and alignment with functional design specifications.Configuring and verifying industrial communication networks (including domain architecture), applying engineering guidelines and performing rigorous verification and validation activities.Troubleshooting and optimizing control system applications, maintaining up‑to‑date technical knowledge of ICT solutions, development tools, and control system technologies.Creating and maintaining local application guidelines, libraries, and inhouse/demo systems to support development, training, testing, and diagnostics.Supporting project delivery through strong customer engagement, safe work practices, and contribution to proposals and technical documentation.

Qualifications for the Role:ABB Automation system experience is mandatory.Sound knowledge of industrial control systems; including powerGeneration (hydro, thermal, geothermal), oil & gas downstream processing, pulp & paper industries.Sound knowledge of Industrial IT Networks, Domains, Windows OS.Sound implementation and maintenance knowledge of Virtual Server environment; including VMWare and ESXi.Experience with fieldbus communication protocols, such as: ProfiBus, ModBusTCP/IP, and ModbusRTU.Experience with OPC SMNPTertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering; within an interest in instrumentation, control engineering, or software programming.Advanced computer skills including MS Office & MS Project, Outlook, AutoCAD..
