Overview
The Sr. Installation Project Engineer is focusing on project management, coordination, customer interaction, and oversight of installation activities. This position supports the successful installation of automated industrial systems at customer sites and serves as a critical liaison between clients, internal engineering teams, and field crews.
The ideal candidate excels at keeping projects on track, managing scopes and schedules, directing small engineering teams, and ensuring installation work aligns with technical and customer expectations.
Core Responsibilities
Project Management & Coordination
•\tManage and coordinate multiple installation projects simultaneously, ensuring progress aligns with critical milestones.
•\tDevelop, review, and maintain Scopes of Work.
•\tServe as the primary bridge between customers, internal engineering staff, and field personnel.
•\tCreate, maintain, and communicate scheduling updates, coordinate field manpower needs, and outage planning.
•\tLead or assist in project meetings
•\tEnsure engineering deliverables align with project requirements before submission (IFA, IFB, IFC, As Built).
Installation Support & Field Coordination
•\tSupport customers with installation of automated industrial systems (electrical and mechanical).
•\tConduct periodic on-site field investigations, limited outage presence, mainly for oversight, not hands-on work.
•\tWork with field supervisors to coordinate fills, schedule adjustments, and installation sequencing.
•\tProvide technical and logistical support during commissioning activities.
Customer Interaction
•\tAct as a customer-facing representative for daily communication, technical clarification, and schedule/status updates.
•\tEnsure alignment between installed work, engineering intent, and customer expectations.
•\tBuild long-term trust through clear communication and reliable project execution.
Team Leadership
•\tProvide leadership and direction to small groups of Installation Project Engineers and Installation Design Engineers.
•\tReview engineering work for accuracy, constructability, and clarity.
•\tAssist in training, guiding, and developing junior engineering staff.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
Required Qualifications
•\tBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred due to heavy electrical installation focus) or related discipline.
•\t5+ years of industrial engineering, project engineering, or installation engineering experience.
•\tAbility to manage processes and people (will have two engineers reporting to them)
•\tAbility to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, civil layouts, and hydraulic diagrams.
•\tProficiency in Microsoft Suite, AutoCAD LT
Preferred Qualifications
•\tStrong experience in industrial electrical and/or mechanical installation projects.
•\tMetals industry experience is a strong plus.
•\tSmall team leadership or project coordination experience.
•\tNEC code familiarity: ETAP knowledge is a plus (for oversight).

Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portage, IN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $40.00 - $51.00/hr.
