Product Engineer – Mechanical / Electromechanical Systems Behavioral Science Research Products Why This Role Is Exciting Do you enjoy designing real, physical products—and then seeing them used in the real world? We’re looking for a mechanically driven Product Engineer who loves hands‑on engineering, problem‑solving, and bringing ideas from concept to reality. In this role, you’ll design and build electromechanical devices used by researchers worldwide, work directly with customers, and even travel internationally to install and support cutting‑edge equipment. What You’ll Do + Design and develop electromechanical products with a strong emphasis on mechanical systems + Create detailed CAD models and drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD + Build, assemble, and test prototypes and production units + Improve existing designs for performance, reliability, and manufacturability + Collaborate with leadership, manufacturing partners, and cross‑functional teams to bring products to market + Evaluate electrical components and understand how electronics and firmware/software interact with mechanical designs + Provide advanced technical support to customers, including troubleshooting complex issues + Travel internationally (primarily Europe, a few times per year) to: + Install equipment + Train users + Perform advanced on‑site troubleshooting + Help create scalable support solutions (e.g., FAQ videos, documentation) to reduce repetitive support requests What We’re Looking For Required Skills & Experience + BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field + 3+ years of hands‑on mechanical design experience + Strong proficiency in SolidWorks (AutoCAD experience a plus) + Comfort working with tools, prototypes, and small assemblies + Solid understanding of mechanical design principles and product development + Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines + Strong problem‑solving, communication, and customer‑facing skills + Willingness to travel up to ~15%, including international travel Nice to Have + Exposure to electronics, sensors, or electromechanical systems + Basic familiarity with programming or firmware concepts + Experience supporting or deploying products in customer environments + Interest in behavioral science, research tools, or scientific instrumentation What You’ll Gain + Ownership of products from concept through deployment + Hands‑on engineering work—not just desk design + International travel and direct collaboration with global research teams + The opportunity to make a real impact in scientific and behavioral research + A collaborative environment where engineering judgment and creativity are valued Experience Level Intermediate (3–7 years) Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Chula Vista, CA.
