Essential functions (job duties):
The W.S.U. Math Corps, a program of the Center for Excellence and Equity in Mathematics (CEEM), is widely recognized as one of the preeminent university outreach programs in the country. It’s the flagship of a growing national network of Math Corps programs that work to support kids from underserved communities in grades 7-12. The Program Coordinator of the WSU Math Corps, reporting to the Director of CEEM, is responsible for the overall administration and management of all operations.
Work with the Director of CEEM to ensure the continued success of the W.S.U. Math Corps and its mission in supporting Detroit’s children - promoting at all times an environment of high expectations and a sense of family in every W.S.U. Math Corps program and for every W.S.U. Math Corps student.
Manage all W.S.U. Math Corps program operations including student recruitment, selection and registration; parent and family interactions; program scheduling and the securing of facilities; the purchasing and storage of supplies and food; the preparation and processing of instructional materials and exams; and planning of special events.
Assist the Director of CEEM in program planning and development; recommend changes to support organizational operations and services.
Oversee and troubleshoot all aspects of W.S.U. Math Corps programs during their implementation, including those occurring during non-traditional evening and weekend hours.
Provide leadership to all W.S.U. Math Corps personnel, ensuring the integrity of the program and the adherence of all staff to the Math Corps’ unique student-centered philosophy, core principles, and practices.
Recruit, hire, coordinate the training of, supervise, and evaluate year-round W.S.U. Math Corps office staff and temporary program employees.
Assist CEEM’s leadership in managing the W.S.U. Math Corps’ financial affairs, participating in the preparation of budgets, managing the W.S.U. Math Corps’ budget and financial records and working with CEEM’s Administrative Assistant to provide regular financial reports.
Oversee the compilation and organization of all students and program records and the management of the program’s database. Prepare required reports.
Represent the W.S.U. Math Corps at University and public forums and participate with CEEM’s leadership in managing the W.S.U. Math Corps’ public relations - developing and maintaining informational and promotional materials, managing the W.S.U. Math Corps’ website and social media involvement and overseeing the W.S.U. Math Corps’ presence in the media.
Assist in fundraising efforts such as the writing of grant proposals, or the organizing of special events and/or activities.
Assist in developing and maintaining strong alumni and constituent support networks.
Oversee the evaluation of all W.S.U. Math Corps programs and assist CEEM’s leadership in planning and developing improvements, modifications or expansions to its programming.
Provide help as needed in planning, implementing, and supporting the establishment of Math Corps sites in other cities, state-wide and nationally.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Able to interact effectively and empathetically with a diversity of individuals, including students, parents, faculty, staff and administrators. Able to do so in pressure situations.
Able to work independently on projects with minimal supervision.
Proficient in the use of standard computer software programs. Able to learn new systems.
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution.
Preferred qualifications:
Experience working with diverse populations and students from urban school districts. ● Strong familiarity with the Math Corps philosophy, principles, and practices. ● Experience in or a strong understanding of the important issues involved in public education. ● Strong background in mathematics.
