HEAD START/EARLY HEAD START Through our Head Start and Early Head Start programs, we work with children (ages 0 - 5) and their families to provide the skills, confidence and stable home life necessary for a smooth transition into kindergarten and beyond. Children also receive a broad array of health services including screenings and referrals, maintenance of immunization schedules, nutrition assessments and follow-ups, mental health assessments as part of initial screenings, and determination if developmental or physical delays are present. Children receive health and dental services and have access to ongoing and acute and routine health and dental care. Enrolled children receive healthy meals, along with an assessment of their nutritional needs and the necessary follow-ups. Nutrition education is available for parents and incorporated into daily classroom activities for the children. JOB SUMMARY AND PURPOSE The Program Assistant Health is responsible for assisting the Program Health Manager and Health Coordinator in implementing Health Services within the agency. They will work in collaboration with the Family Advocate who handles functions in health services. They will provide health screenings, health education, health plans, medication administration and trainings, and monitoring of health requirements of the children and families. Specific Duties include: + Maintains current data, health records, health plans, and medication treatment assessments and ensures they are up to date. Pulls and submits reports, monitors files, and does home visits as necessary.Ensures confidentiality is maintained at all times. + Travels to sites, community agencies, conferences, and trainings as required. + Demonstrates leadership abilities and serves as a spokesperson for families. Supports Family Advocates in health principles and monitors health forms to ensure proper follow up. + Collaborates effectively with others in a multidisciplinary approach and encourages a team environment. + Supports all aspects of Title 22 and all Head Start performance standards. + Promotes preventative health practices and early intervention principles and creates referrals if needed. Links children and families to needed services or resources out in the community. + Other duties as may be needed to fulfill program requirements. ESSNTIAL DUTIES + Services for this position must be provided on-site. As a result, the position requires incumbents to report to work on-site each day of active employment. + Maintains current data, health records, health plans, and medication treatment assessments and ensures they are up to date. MANDATED REPORTER As service providers to the underprivileged and vulnerable in our community, all employees are considered Mandated Reporters, and must report any instance of physical or sexual abuse to proper authorities. Qualifications REQUIREMENTS: + Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications + In order to make visits to homes and travel to different school sites, offices, etc., must have access to an automobile with adequate insurance coverage and a valid California driver-s license, or have means to other easily accessible transportation. + Proof at the time of hire + Must have health examination at the time of employment and verification of a T.B. clearance issued within six (6) months prior to employment, renewed when required. + Annual Influenza vaccination (between Nov. 1st - Mar. 31st) + Pertussis (whooping cough) and measles immunization + Requires ability to interact with children in a busy environment including, but not limited to: + Able to lift up to 50 lbs. + Frequently kneel and squat + Ability to move quickly EDUCATION: + High School Diploma or G.E.D equivalent + First Aide/CPR certified EXPERIENCE: + One year of experience. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: + CER Certified + Certifications in public health, health education, or related field + Work experience in Head Start/Early Head Start programs + Knowledge of health practices and principles + Knowledge of public health, communicable disease or school health education + Child Plus, and Acorn + Knowledge of the data system Child plus utilized & for monitoring purposes + Bilingual (Written and verbal) + Promote health curriculum, activities, and initiatives Volunteers of America is an Equal Opportunity employer.
