As a Product Development Engineer, you will be responsible for managing comprehensive product specifications, supporting new product development, ensuring regulatory compliance, and collaborating cross-functionally to ensure successful commercialization of products.
Responsibilities
+ Develop, review, and maintain comprehensive product specifications for raw materials, finished goods, packaging components, and nutritional data.
+ Ensure specifications are accurate, standardized, and aligned with customer, regulatory, and internal requirements.
+ Manage specification changes and version control throughout the product lifecycle.
+ Coordinate specification approvals and documentation readiness for commercialization.
+ Support new product development, reformulations, and line extensions by translating formulas and processes into technical specifications.
+ Collaborate with R&D to ensure formulations are scalable, manufacturable, and specification-compliant.
+ Assist with product trials, validation runs, and commercialization activities.
+ Ensure product specifications comply with applicable food safety and regulatory requirements.
+ Support allergen management, nutritional accuracy, and label compliance.
+ Respond to internal and external audits related to specifications and product documentation.
+ Work closely with Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, Operations, Procurement, and Suppliers to gather and verify specification data.
+ Communicate specification requirements clearly to internal teams and external partners.
+ Support customer specification requests, technical questionnaires, and documentation reviews.
+ Maintain specification data within product lifecycle management or specification management systems.
+ Ensure data integrity, traceability, and audit readiness.
+ Identify opportunities to improve specification processes and documentation workflows.
Essential Skills
+ Experience with SAP and data analysis.
+ Proficiency in product specification within the food industry.
+ PML/SAP experience.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Food Science, Food Technology, Nutrition, or a related scientific field.
+ 2–5 years of experience in food product development, specifications, or technical documentation.
+ Strong understanding of food ingredients, formulations, and manufacturing processes.
+ Working knowledge of food regulations, allergens, and labeling requirements.
+ Experience with PLM, ERP, or specification management systems.
Work Environment
The East Hanover site hosts approximately 400 employees, with most working a hybrid schedule of 2-3 days per week onsite and remote options on Mondays and Fridays. There is a preference for candidates to come onsite 1 day per week, although fully remote candidates may be considered if they are the right fit. Employees enjoy free lunch Monday through Friday.

This is a Contract position based out of East Hanover, NJ.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $65.00/hr.
