Who You Will Work With:
Join the Product Design team at Interac, responsible for designing and providing UX support for all digital products. We are a collaborative team where everyone stays connected to each other’s work. As a Product Design Intern, you will work closely with our design and research leads to help develop, evaluate, and refine the next generation of Interac products. Alongside design responsibilities, you will also support our UX Research team across key research activities.
In this role, you can expect to:
Support Product Designers with everyday design tasks such as creating prototypes, refining design iterations, and participating in design critique sessions.
Aid in the creation of prototypes for presentation, user testing, and other product development needs.
Take ownership of your work and present to stakeholders.
Support design and research projects across Interac’s product lines (e-Transfer, Debit, KONEK, Verified).
Assist in reviewing designs for accessibility standards.
Support the UX Research team through survey creation, A/B testing, insights gathering and synthesis, documentation, reporting, artefact creation, and other UXR-related tasks.
Participate in and support usability testing, user interviews, heuristic evaluations, and secondary research activities as required.
Communicate research insights and design decisions to stakeholders and collaborate closely with design and research leads.
What You Will Do:
Design Execution: Translate business and stakeholder needs into design solutions using Figma, contributing to prototypes, visual design, and iterative improvements.
Design Thinking: Understand and empathize with user and stakeholder needs; ideate, prototype, and iterate based on feedback and observed user behavior.
UI Design: Apply strong Figma skills to create polished, user‑friendly interfaces aligned with product goals and accessibility standards.
Communication: Share daily updates with your manager, collaborate with cross‑functional partners, and confidently present design concepts and rationale.
Design Systems: Leverage and contribute to design system components, ensuring consistency, accessibility, and brand alignment.
Research Support: Assist in planning and executing research activities, including usability testing, surveys, heuristic evaluations, and user interviews.
Data Synthesis: Help analyze research findings, identify patterns, and translate insights into actionable recommendations for the design team.
Research Artefacts: Contribute to creating research documentation such as insights reports, journey maps, transcripts, and highlight decks.
Cross‑Team Collaboration: Work closely with UX Researchers and Designers to ensure research learnings are incorporated into design decisions and product improvements.
What You Bring:
Eligibility to work for Interac Corp. in Canada in a full-time capacity.
Currently completing an undergraduate degree/certificate from a creditable Canadian institution with a focus on Interaction Design, Design, UX/UI, or similar field
A strong portfolio that you can confidently demonstrate what you’ve directly contributed to while also highlighting the wide-range of your talents and capabilities. In your portfolio, we would like to see:
Visual Design: High proficiency with Figma as you will create visually appealing, best-in-class, and engaging user interfaces and designs on an ongoing basis
Experience with UX Research methods, including usability testing, user interviews, survey creation, A/B testing, heuristic evaluations, note‑taking, and synthesizing findings to inform design decisions.
Understanding and familiarity with tools like Figjam & Jira - You have experience taking business and stakeholder needs/requirements and translating them into of design executions in Figma
Strong UI skills with the ability to create low to high fidelity to pixel-perfect designs based on best possible UX for various potential stakeholder – you have a clear passion for, and understand, current UX and UI design best practices
A passion for both mobile and desktop experiences with responsive web design to mobile application and beyond
Design Thinking: Ability to understand and empathize with user/stakeholder needs, ideate and prototype solutions, communicate the rationale behind your design decisions, and being open to iterating based on useful feedback
Confidence in your ability to communicate verbally in a detailed and impactful way – you have some experience presenting design concepts and solutions
Proven time management and organization skills. You are able to prioritize and manage your time effectively to meet deadlines
Understanding that success is in the details – you tend to notice things that others don't
Although not required, you have some familiarity or previous experience with the following:
Understanding of accessibility guidelines and best practices
Figma Make and other AI tools for designing
Motion graphics and microanimations
Experience working directly with both internal and external developers, project managers, and product owners
Experience with UX Research, User Testing and A/B Testing
Experience working in Agile teams is a plus
What We’re Offering:
The hourly pay range for this position is $21 to $23, and the internship term runs from May to August 2026. The exact amount will depend on factors such as skills, experience, and job-related knowledge. An internship opportunity at Interac also features:
