About the Role:
BBVA is seeking an experienced Executive Director to strengthen its Corporate Lending Asia franchise, based in Hong Kong. The role sits within BBVA’s regional Corporate Lending Asia platform, with primary responsibility for originating, structuring, and executing corporate loan transactions for clients in Australia, Korea, Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
This is a senior, highly client-facing and execution-oriented position, suited to a proactive originator with strong entrepreneurial drive. The role offers meaningful regional exposure, end-to-end ownership of transactions, and the opportunity to actively shape and grow BBVA’s corporate lending franchise by delivering tailored financing solutions to leading corporates and financial institutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Proactively identify and originate corporate lending opportunities across Australia, Korea, Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan, including syndicated, club and bilateral loans
Actively pitch BBVA’s capabilities and prepare high-quality pitch books and proposals to secure mandates and convert opportunities into executed transactions
Build and maintain transaction-driven senior client relationships, positioning BBVA as a trusted strategic financing partner
Drive revenue and asset growth, contributing to regional business objectives
Lead the structuring and execution of corporate loans, ensuring alignment with clients’ strategic objectives, capital structures, and risk profiles
Design and deliver bespoke financing solutions, including sustainable and event-driven transactions
Negotiate commercial terms, covenants, and security packages with clients
Draft and review loan and syndication documentation, including term sheets, mandate letters, facility agreements, information memoranda, and bank meeting materials
Prepare and present transactions to business and credit committees, clearly articulating structure, risks, and return considerations
Take ownership of day-to-day transaction execution, coordinating closely with internal teams (coverage, syndication & sales, risk, legal, compliance, tax, sustainable finance, markets, operations) and external stakeholders (clients, partner banks, legal counsel) to ensure smooth and timely delivery
Coach, mentor, and develop junior team members, fostering a high-performance and collaborative culture
Contribute to the development of the Corporate Lending Asia franchise by sharing market intelligence, origination ideas, structuring innovations, and best practices
Support the team’s evolution from participation toward leading mandates, positioning BBVA for greater leadership in the syndicated loan market
Qualification & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics or a related discipline
Minimum of 10 years of experience in corporate loan origination or related roles
Proven track record in originating and executing complex corporate loan transactions in Australia, Korea, Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan
Knowledge & Skills
Deep understanding of the APAC syndicated loan market and industry best practices
Strong credit analysis and transaction structuring expertise, balancing commercial objectives with risk discipline
Strong client-facing presence with the ability to engage senior stakeholders
Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multi-cultural teams
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple transactions under tight deadlines
Proactive, results-driven, and client-focused, with an entrepreneurial mindset
Language
Fluent in English (spoken and written)
Korean or Japanese or Chinese language skills are an advantage
