Job Description

NBC News Digital Video Productions is looking for a seasoned and creative journalist to join our short-form video team.

This role centers on producing compelling news content tailored for social platforms, with a strong emphasis on vertical video formats like TikTok, Instagram, and the NBC News app, as well as other emerging platforms. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of current events, both domestic and international, and a passion for innovative storytelling. Success in this position requires agility in a fast-paced newsroom, a collaborative spirit, and a sharp editorial instinct for identifying and enhancing key news moments through engaging visual narratives.

This role is based in New York and represented by the News Guild – CWA.

Responsibilities

Follow the biggest news stories and latest developments around them for possible vertical video treatmentCollaborate with producers, reporters, correspondents and editors to bring stories, particularly focusing on world news, to lifePitch, research, shoot, and edit original social video for NBC News and Stay Tuned across various social platforms including, YouTube, TikTok, and InstagramStay abreast of stories being pursued across NBC News platforms and shows, and spot opportunities in vertical video around planned or developing coverageExperiment with new formats native to each social platformStay up to date on important news stories and stay true to our news standardsHave a pulse on what trends are percolating on social platforms 

Qualifications3 or more years of experience producing, shooting, and editing social video for a news outletDirect experience creating video content for social media platforms, with a focus on vertical formats and platform-native storytellingBachelor’s degree or equivalent years of relevant working experienceFluent in the culture of social media and online communities, especially TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and SnapchatA deep understanding of how to script and produce videos that meet peak editorial standardsExperience collaborating with correspondents, reporters and broadcast talentA strong grasp of social analytics, and the ability to absorb feedback on content performanceStrong news judgment and excellent writing, research, interviewing, and communication skillsExperience shooting on iPhone for social Proficiency in Adobe Premiere and social in-app editing toolsAbility to pivot quickly to breaking news assignments and adjust priorities as neededFlexibility to respond to breaking news situations outside of regular working hours

Additional Requirements 

Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, which currently requires contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week. Beginning January 5, 2026, hybrid employees will be required to work from the office a minimum of four days per week. The Company reserves the right to change in-office requirements at any time.

Salary range: $93,000 - $110,000
