Process Relief Operator I | Midlothian Tx Cement Plant
Description

Under the supervision of shift supervisor, relieves all operators in all phases of production: Production Control Operator, Mill Operator, Process Attendant (Mills, Kilns & Roller Mills) Process Assistant, Pyro-Process Assistant, Heavy Equipment Operator I & II, and Process Attendant (RTO/Scrubber), Plant Operator. RESPONSIBILITIESInspects and lubricates plant machineryAssists Mill Operator as needed to maintain proper function of equipmentPerforms inspections on Kiln and clinker cooler and documents statusAssists Tower Attendant when necessary to help remove plugs/build-upsShoots coating and/or other build-ups in kiln via kiln gunAssists with kiln repairs when neededOperates dump truck to Haul dustOperates and lubricates heavy equipmentInspects belts and feedersOperates grinding mills and associated machinery from control panel.Changes equipment settings and operating parameters as directed.Checks process flow of raw mill and finish mills.Leads activities of personnel and has authority to assign routine and non-routine work.Consults with and makes recommendations to his immediate supervisor regarding transfers and promotions.Operates kilns by making adjustments to the rate of fuel flow, speed, draft and other process variables.Makes necessary adjustments and corrections to auxiliary equipment to maintain uniform kiln operating conditions.Maintain accurate records of the operation of the kilns and their auxiliaries.Other duties as directed by supervisorREQUIREMENTSHigh School diploma or equivalent.Minimum of five (5) years experience in cement production or closely related industryMust have a good understanding of the key positions/tasks listed above. Being fully cross-trained and experienced in all of these key positions is STRONGLY PREFERRED. Candidates who do not have all of the preferred skills and experience will be considered for the Relief II position and must be able to successfully complete on-the-job-training in those processes and positions for which they are not fully trained.Must be able to drive and operate bobcat using levers and pedals to operate for clean-upMust be able to use shovel, broom, jackhammer, and wheelbarrowStrong knowledge of clinker handling system preferredMust be able to operate front-end loaders and/or dozers.Must be able to keep accurate records of machinery lubrication and records of transporting materials to feeders.Must be able to climb ladder of 20-50’ in height.Must be able to be on your feet 8-12 hours a day on concrete.Must be able to climb stairways of 50’ in height.Must be able to understand and speak clearly over telephone and base radio unit and interpret instructions from supervisor.Must be able to read gauges and keep accurate records of operating procedure.Must be able to wear respirators.Must be able to carry 5-gallon buckets of oil weighing 40-50 lbs. for lubrication purposes.Must be able to work in confined spaces and below ground level.Must be able to read and understand operating manuals for mobile equipment operated.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesMust have office mathematic skillsMust be computer literate and have ability to learn new softwareMust be able to effectively read, write and verbally communicate in the English languageTeam oriented, able to work in a fast paced environmentSelf-starter with ability to work with little or no supervisionMust be able to read and interpret gauges/dials and make competent decisions related to processing equipmentMust be able to work irregular shifts and work days/nights and weekends as requiredPhysical RequirementsMust be able to perform duties in a safe manner.  This job requires the ability to wear a hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toed boots and hearing protectionMust be able to climb stairs to a height of 100 ft. and work at this heightMust be able to work in confined spacesAbility to operate radio, CB radio, computer and other equipment as requiredMust be able to bend, stoop, climb and reach around all areas of equipmentLift up to 25 lbsMust be able to walk across steep/rough terrainAbility to use hand tools such as shovels, wrenches, screwdrivers, etc.Working ConditionsMust be able to work in areas where noise levels are up to 90 dbsWill work in varied environments (in all weather conditions heat, cold, wet, humid, dry and/or dusty conditions)Exposure to cement, clay, limestone, shale, and other raw materials and various chemicals, solvents and lubricants
