Our client is hiring a Process Controls Engineer to pioneer our automation needs as we grow and expand manufacturing capabilities in the US. We are looking for someone who capitalizes on a hands-on approach to learning new control methods, help develop our automation standards and practices and guide other engineers as we enable the US based production and adoption of long duration energy storage systems in the flow battery space.
Reporting through the manufacturing engineering team, you will directly affect the direction and development of our operations base. You will work with other chemical, electrical and mechanical engineers as we will bring a novel production process from lab scale to full operations and help lead the future expansion of deployed manufacturing sites. We expect a blend of traditional controls technology and hardware with the capabilities of higher-level programming languages.

Responsibilities
The Process Controls Engineer will be the go-to person for new process improvement recommendations, controls designs, and critical troubleshooting eventsTake ownership of all the automation aspects of our equipment, including: development and support of controls for production, pilot, and laboratory systems. Develop new and modify existing programming in various control systems, including, but not exclusive to: PLC systems (Siemens preferred), Industrial Internet of Things , Lab Instrument systems such as Labview.Support existing applications that use Python and C++ programming languages.Build SCADA and MES infrastructure for the collection and monitoring of laboratory and production data, using Inductive Automation’s Ignition Platform.Develop plans and support implementation for control system hardware and software for new applications.Support & review controls cabinet design documentation for new applications.Improve operating efficiency on manufacturing equipment through control system implementation and automationSupport the product engineering team by supporting test programming and data acquisition for laboratory systems.Take a hands-on approach to improvements•Generate and maintain proper documentation of the process development cycle and complete communication and training of others.Foster strong relationships with members of the product engineering team, operations team, and vendorsWork at all levels across the organizationGrow expertise in Automation, MES, Industry 4.0 and IIoTQualifications
BS or greater in Chemical Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field.3-5+ years of hands-on automation experience in a manufacturing or process development environmentCapability to work with and write scripted programming languages is required (Python experience preferred)Understanding of network communication protocols such as EthernetIP, Profinet, and Modbus is requiredKnowledge and Experience with Inductive Automation’s Ignition SCADA platform is strongly preferredAbility to work with PLC hardware and software is required (Siemens is preferred) including capability to work with and write ladder logic and structured text programming languagesExperience in panel building and field wiring is preferredExperience and familiarity with database query languages such as MSSQL and Postgres. Experience in database management is a plusExperience in HMI and/or Operator Interface programming and configuration, experience with IA’s Ignition Perspective module is preferredFamiliar with instrumentation and devices used in chemical manufacturingAbout the work environment:
You will work in both office and manufacturing environments. Battery components manufacturing employs chemicals, heat, and heavy equipment, and as such you will at times be exposed to fumes, noise, dirt, hazards, and chemicals, and in all cases will be provided with appropriate PPE.You must be able to see, hear and speak; able to sit, stand for at least two hours at a time, sit, bend, crawl, squat, kneel and climb able to use both arms and hands to use a computer and peripherals and lift 40 pounds from floor level, able to work below ground level in confined spaces and on stationary or mobile elevated platforms, able to wear respirator and other personal protective equipment (PPE) as required, able to climb stairs.Occasional travel may be required for this position but not more than 15%Skills

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $38.00 - $45.67/hr.
