Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is looking for you to join our team as a Tooling Configuration Control Analyst based in Sunnyvale, CA.
The Tooling Configuration Control Analyst owns the configuration‑management life‑cycle for tooling assets, ensuring that every change, drawing, and specification is accurately documented, traceable, and compliant with internal and external Customer requirements. The role provides the formal change‑control process, maintains the tooling configuration library.
What you will get to do:
Configuration Management of tooling – Create, maintain, and enforce naming conventions, part‑numbering, and tool type classifications for the tooling configuration library.Change Control & Release – Work with Tool Design Engineering to review engineering change notices, vendor change requests, and substantial design change packages, route change requests and approve revisions.Documentation – Validate that all tool artifacts (3‑D models, 2‑D drawings, procurement specifications, inspection plans) are version‑controlled, signed, and stored in the system. Conduct periodic configuration audits for internal and external stakeholders.Lifecycle Traceability – Maintain traceability matrices linking tooling to system requirements, and certification records. Track tool status from initiation through production, use, and decommissioning.Supplier & Vendor Management – Engage with suppliers to obtain tooling quotes, validate certification paperwork, and confirm compliance, safety, and quality standards.Process Improvement – Collaborate with tool design engineers to identify gaps in current tooling workflows, recommend integration enhancements (including improvements to the tool request system), and lead focused training for the tool design team.This position may be filled at the Principal or Senior Principal level, depending on candidate experience.
The ideal candidate will be self-motivated with the ability to organize and prioritize job assignments and tasks. They will be able to work independently as well as in an integrated team and adapt to change and dynamic requirements. They will also possess excellent communication skills – presentation, oral, written, and listening, as well as strong critical thinking and logical reasoning skills with the ability to solve issues.
Basic Qualifications for the Principal Configuration Analyst:
A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree; OR 3 or more years of relevant experience with a Master's degreeExperience applying Configuration Management principals.Experience reviewing 2D drawings for completeness, revisions and record control.Minimum 2 years technical experience in design and fabrication environment.Experience evaluating vendor and equipment capability and ability to perform required tasks to include production of tooling as well as unique aerospace part production.Experience utilizing Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) to document and manage business processesExperience working in a (Product Life-Cycle Management System) PLM.Ability to obtain US Secret ClearanceUS Citizenship requiredBasic Qualifications for the Sr. Principal Configuration Analyst:
A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree; OR 6 or more years of relevant experience with a Master's degreeExperience applying Configuration Management principals.Experience reviewing 2D drawings for completeness, revisions and record control.Minimum 2 years technical experience in design and fabrication environment.Experience evaluating vendor and equipment capability and ability to perform required tasks to include production of tooling as well as unique aerospace part production.Experience utilizing Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) to document and manage business processesExperience working in a (Product Life-Cycle Management System) PLM.Ability to obtain US Secret ClearancePreferred Qualifications for Both Levels:
