**About the Role**
We are seeking a **Principal Engineer** to drive the modernization of our Rx (prescription) platform. This is a **techno-functional leadership role** that blends deep technical expertise with a strong product mindset. You will be at the forefront of reimagining how we deliver prescription services—driving architectural decisions, building scalable systems, and ensuring we solve the right problems for our users.
You will work closely with business teams, designers, and cross-functional engineering teams to define and deliver solutions that are not only technically sound but also aligned with business goals and user needs.
**Key Responsibilities**
+ **Lead Rx Modernization Backlog:** Drive product features and requirements to build modern, scalable, and resilient systems to transform our prescription platform.
+ **Techno-Functional Leadership:** Act as a bridge between Operations and engineering—translating business problems into technical solutions and vice versa.
+ **Problem Discovery & Framing:** Collaborate with stakeholders to deeply understand the “why” behind problems, ensuring we solve the right ones.
+ **Product Thinking:** Champion a user-centric approach to engineering—prioritizing outcomes over output.
+ **Hands-on:** Write high-quality, maintainable product features and user specs and guide teams through complex technical challenges.
+ **Mentorship & Influence:** Mentor engineers across teams and influence architectural and product direction.
+ **Cross-Functional Collaboration:** Partner with Operations, design, data, and operations to deliver end-to-end solutions.
**Required Skills :**
+ 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5+ years in a product-focused or techno-functional role.
+ 5+ years of Proven experience in large-scale platform transformations.
+ 5 + years experience in modern backend technologies (e.g., Java, Node.js, Go, or similar) and cloud-native architectures (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure).
**Preferred Skills:**
+ Deep understanding of system design, APIs, data modeling, and distributed systems.
+ Demonstrated ability to think strategically about product and technology trade-offs.
+ Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence across technical and non-technical audiences.
+ Experience with pharmacy technology/dispensing/workflows is required
**EDUCATION**
Bachelor’s degree or, equivalent experience (HS diploma + 4 years relevant experience)
**Pay Range**
The typical pay range for this role is:
$144,200.00 - $288,400.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
