The Fulfillment tech family is one of the pillars enabling Grab to out-serve our customers and partners in different businesses and marketplaces across Southeast Asia. We are working on high throughput, real-time distributed systems that use machine learning techniques to solve hundreds of millions of requests per day. Get to Know the Role

We are seeking a Principal Software Engineer, Backend to join our dynamic team in Jakarta, Indonesia. In this pivotal role, you will lead the design, development, and optimization of our backend systems, driving innovation and technical excellence across our organization. The role will be fully onsite. You will be reporting to the Head of Engineering.

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

Architect and implement scalable, high-performance backend systems and servicesLead the design and development of complex distributed systems and microservicesCollaborate with cross-functional teams to define and implement API strategiesMentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellenceConduct code reviews and ensure adherence to best practices and coding standardsOptimize database performance and design efficient data storage solutionsParticipate in technical decision-making processes and contribute to long-term technology roadmapsTroubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in production environmentsStay current with emerging technologies and industry trends, recommending innovative solutions

Qualifications

What Essential Skills You Will Need

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field; Master's degree preferred8+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 3 years in a senior or lead engineering roleAdvanced proficiency in backend programming languages such as Java, Python, or GoExpertise in distributed systems and microservices architectureIn-depth knowledge of database systems, including both SQL and NoSQL technologiesExtensive experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP)Strong skills in API design and developmentProven track record of designing and implementing large-scale, high-performance systemsSolid understanding of software design patterns and principlesFamiliarity with DevOps practices and toolsExcellent problem-solving and analytical skillsStrong communication and leadership abilitiesAbility to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
