The Northrop Grumman Microelectronics Center (NGMC) of Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking an exceptionally talented and motivated Microelectronics Process Engineer to join our Workforce Development Team.

Advanced Technology Lab (ATL) - located outside of Baltimore, Maryland - where we design, manufacture, and test semiconductor products for internal and commercial production customers as well as emerging technology programs. Northrop Grumman’s ATL semiconductor foundry is a unique capability supporting a range of production microelectronic devices (Silicon, Gallium Arsenide, Gallium Nitride, Silicon Carbide, Carbon Nanotubes) and providing leading edge technology development in superconducting electronics. Our devices enable several Northrop Grumman’s ground-based radars, avionic radars, and space systems.

Our multidisciplinary foundry team enables activities from development to sustainment process engineering. ATL is responsible for all aspects of semiconductor technology including design, mask making, wafer fabrication, test, and assembly.

The Microelectronics Process Engineer will work within the Fab creating Workforce Development and upskilling strategies.

The Microelectronics Process Engineer will be responsible for:

Training technical microelectronics-based concepts to colleagues, including but not limited to: lithography, etching, chemical vapor deposition (CVD), physical vapor deposition (PVD), ion implantation, and wafer fabrication.

Working directly with a wide range of stakeholders, including ATL leaders, engineering and Workforce Development partners, to understand organizational needs and business questions.

Developing and delivering training programs to support our technical teams, ensuring that all personnel are highly proficient in semiconductor manufacturing processes.

Training technicians and junior engineers on tool operations/ processes.

Interfacing with customers, program managers, other unit process engineers, and integration engineers during the design and execution of process development and improvement projects.

Exploring potential solutions by forming structured hypotheses, identifying patterns in data using quantitative methods, and deriving findings.

Pitching data-driven solutions that provide insight into workforce programs, initiatives and trends.

Collaborating with other data professionals (e.g., Industrial engineers, Process Engineers, project managers) to confirm and enhance preliminary findings. 

Synthesizing and communicating results for executive audiences by capturing meaningful insights and takeaways from performance-based data.

Driving projects from initial concept through deployment.

Performing all other related duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in microelectronic processes, including but not limited to lithography, etching, chemical vapor deposition (CVD), physical vapor deposition (PVD), ion implantation, and wafer fabrication. This role requires the ability to teach complex concepts to both technical and non-technical individuals, ensuring consistency in safety standards, operational procedures, and cutting-edge technology.

Basic Qualifications for Principal Microelectronics Process Engineer:

Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Chemistry, Physics or other related STEM discipline with 5 years of relevant experience, 3 years with a Masters or 0 years with PhD

Must have 5 years relevant experience

Direct experience with semiconductor fabrication, working in a R&D cleanroom environment.

Ability to gather and analyze people analytics data to form structure hypotheses

Ability to apply quantitative and statistical approaches to answer questions using data.

Ability to develop and evaluate survey items to ensure accurate measurement of employee attitudes and experiences.

Experience collaborating on projects with multiple teams, managing relationships, and communicating findings to audiences.

Experience in executive data storytelling and writing compelling, concise, and insightful summaries to communicate developed insights.

Must be able to work a large percentage of time working in a Class 100 cleanroom environment.

Must be able to meet all physical and PPE requirements.

Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and understanding of SPC tools and use.

Experience in structured problem-solving methodology to troubleshoot tool and process issues such as RCCA, 5Why’s and Fishbone methodology

Must be a US Citizen

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance

Basic Qualifications for Senior Principal Microelectronics Process Engineer:

Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Chemistry, Physics or other related STEM discipline with 8 years of relevant experience, 6 years with a Masters or 3 years with PhD

Must have 5 years relevant experience

Direct experience with semiconductor fabrication, working in a R&D cleanroom environment.

Ability to gather and analyze people analytics data to form structure hypotheses

Ability to apply quantitative and statistical approaches to answer questions using data.

Ability to develop and evaluate survey items to ensure accurate measurement of employee attitudes and experiences.

Experience in High-volume, and low-volume manufacturing facilities.

Salary Range: $105,400.00 - $158,000.00Salary Range 2: $131,100.00 - $196,700.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
